New Beginnings, Brighter Futures: Puis Elementary School Officially Opens School Year 2026–2027!
Puis, New Washington, Aklan – Puis Elementary School officially welcomed the opening of School Year 2026–2027 through a meaningful and inspiring First Flag Raising Ceremony held on the first day of classes. The event was attended by learners, parents, teachers, school personnel and distinguished officials from the Department of Education, marking the beginning of another promising academic year.
The opening program served as a celebration of new beginnings and renewed commitment to learning. After weeks of preparation through Brigada Eskwela and other school readiness activities, learners enthusiastically returned to their classrooms, eager to embrace new lessons, experiences and opportunities for growth. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, hope and optimism as the Puis ES community gathered to embark on another journey toward academic excellence and holistic development.
Adding significance to the occasion was the presence of sir Ariel Z. Zubiaga, Public Schools District Supervisor of the District of New Washington, Aklan. His attendance during the flag-raising ceremony reflected the district's unwavering commitment to ensuring a smooth, orderly and successful opening of classes.
The school was likewise honored by the visit of Dr. Analyn C. Perez, Education Program Supervisor in Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP), who conducted monitoring activities and classroom visits on the first day of school. Her presence provided valuable support and encouragement to teachers and learners alike, highlighting the importance of character formation and values education in developing responsible and productive citizens.
The visits of these esteemed DepEd officials served as a source of inspiration and motivation for the entire school community. Their guidance and support reaffirmed the Department of Education's commitment to strengthening the delivery of quality basic education and ensuring that every learner receives meaningful and inclusive learning experiences.
School Principal sir Joseph O. CLEARER VISION, BRIGHTER FUTURE!
Lions Club International Brings Hope Through Free Eyeglasses Distribution
A meaningful outreach program was successfully conducted by the Lions Clubs International, District 301-A2 Philippines on May 23, 2026 at Puis Elementary School, bringing smiles and clearer vision to school children through the awarding of free reading eyeglasses.
The program formally began with the preliminary activities followed by the warm words of welcome from sir Joseph O. De Eyoy, School Principal III of Puis Elementary School. In his message, he sincerely acknowledged the generosity and kindness of the Lions Club International for extending assistance to learners in need. He emphasized the importance of proper eyesight in helping children improve their learning experiences and academic performance. He also expressed hope that the free reading eyeglasses would inspire the recipients to become more confident and motivated in their studies.
An inspirational message was delivered by Dr. Lorna R. Dimatatac, President of the Metro Manila South Educators 104 Lions Club. She highlighted the significance of having good eyesight in achieving a brighter future and reminded everyone of the organization’s continuing legacy of helping and reaching out to school children who truly need support. Her message inspired both parents and learners as she encouraged the children to value their education and continue striving for success despite challenges.
Meanwhile, sir Ricky B. Flaviano, Head Teacher I of Jalas Elementary School, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Lions Club International for their compassion and unwavering commitment to community service. He noted that the outreach program would greatly help learners in improving their classroom participation and reading abilities.
The recipients of the free reading eyeglasses were selected school children from Don Basilio Refundo Memorial School, Puis Elementary School, Candelaria Elementary School, Jalas Elementary School and Jugas Elementary School. As the children happily received their eyeglasses, hope and excitement were evident on their faces. With clearer vision, they can now learn better, read more effectively and look forward to a brighter future ahead.
The activity served as a reminder that simple acts of kindness can create a lasting impact in the lives of young learners and strengthen the spirit of compassion and service within the community.

“Igniting Young Minds, Inspiring Powerful Voices!”
The spirit of journalism came alive as young aspiring writers and campus journalists gathered for the District Journalism Training Workshop 2026 held at Puis Elementary School last May 20-22, 2026.
The three-day training workshop successfully brought together 34 learner participants and 5 teacher-coach participants from different schools both private and public who enthusiastically engaged in meaningful learning experiences designed to enhance their journalistic skills, creativity and confidence in communication.
The activity formally opened with preliminary activities that energized the participants and created a vibrant atmosphere of camaraderie and excitement. The opening program was highlighted by the inspiring Opening Remarks of sir Joseph O. De Eyoy, School Principal III of Puis Elementary School, who emphasized the vital role of journalism in promoting truth, responsibility and critical thinking among learners. He encouraged the participants to use journalism as a platform for responsible expression and social awareness.
An uplifting Inspirational Message was also delivered by sir Ariel Z. Zubiaga, Public Schools District Supervisor, District of New Washington, who stressed the benefits of participating in journalism workshops. He encouraged the young journalists to learn boldly, think critically and always speak the truth with courage and integrity.
Throughout the training workshop, participants were immersed in various journalistic disciplines facilitated by equally brilliant and competent speakers in the field of journalism.
The sessions covered essential areas such as Newswriting, Feature Writing, Editorial Writing, Sports Writing, Science and Technology Writing, and Editorial Cartooning.
Each session provided valuable techniques, practical strategies and insightful discussions that enriched the participants’ understanding of responsible and effective journalism.
More than just lectures and discussions, the workshop became an avenue for interactive and enjoyable learning. Participants actively joined fun-filled activities, collaborative exercises and hands-on writing experiences that awakened and strengthened their inner journalistic skills. The learners demonstrated enthusiasm, creativity and determination as they explored the power of words and storytelling.
The success of the District Journalism Training Workshop reflected the commitment of educators and school leaders in nurturing future journalists who can responsibly inform, inspire and influence society through truthful and meaningful communication.

Day 3 of District Journalism Training Workshop 2026 Inspires Passion for Sports and Feature Writing
The third day of the District Journalism Training Workshop 2026 continued to empower and inspire teacher and learner participants through meaningful discussions, engaging activities and enriching learning experiences. Packed with informative sessions and interactive workshops, the day highlighted the beauty of storytelling in both sports and feature writing.
The morning session focused on Sports Writing and was discussed by ma'am Michelle N. Regente, Teacher IV of Malinao School for Philippine Craftsmen. Her discussion introduced participants to the fundamentals of writing sports news and feature articles that capture the excitement, emotions and achievements in the world of sports.
Participants learned how to write effective sports leads, report game highlights, and present accurate scores and statistics while maintaining clarity and enthusiasm in their stories. Through engaging activities and writing exercises, learners and teachers enthusiastically practiced crafting sports articles that reflected teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship. The session also encouraged participants to appreciate sports journalism as an avenue for celebrating athletes and inspiring communities.
In the afternoon session, ma'am Annie B. Malacas, Master Teacher II of New Washington National Comprehensive High School, shared her expertise on Feature Writing. Her insightful discussion emphasized the art of storytelling and the importance of writing human-interest stories that touch the hearts of readers.
Participants were guided on how to develop creative and engaging feature articles through vivid descriptions, emotional appeal and meaningful narratives. The workshop activities allowed participants to explore their imagination and express stories in a more personal and artistic way. Learners and teachers eagerly participated in brainstorming, interviewing and writing tasks that enhanced their confidence and creativity.
The entire third day of the workshop was filled with excitement, collaboration and valuable learning experiences. Both teachers and learners actively participated in discussions, workshops and group activities that made the sessions highly interesting and informative. Day 2 Sparks Creativity and Critical Thinking at the District Journalism Training Workshop 2026
The second day of the District Journalism Training Workshop 2026 continued to ignite creativity, passion and journalistic excellence among teacher and learner participants through exciting discussions and engaging hands-on activities. Filled with enthusiasm and collaboration, the workshop provided another meaningful opportunity for participants to develop their talents and broaden their understanding of various fields of journalism.
The morning session featured Editorial Cartooning with resource speaker sir Mark Dodjie D. Salvador, Teacher III of New Washington National Comprehensive High School. His insightful discussion introduced participants to the art of expressing opinions and social issues through creative illustrations and visual satire.
Participants learned the basic principles of editorial cartooning, including symbolism, exaggeration, labeling, and effective visual storytelling. Through live demonstrations and interactive drawing activities, learners and teachers eagerly showcased their creativity while developing cartoons that reflected current issues and meaningful messages. Laughter, imagination and critical thinking filled the venue as participants explored how art can become a powerful voice in journalism.
In the afternoon session, ma'am Jona R. Hilario, Teacher IV of Pinamuk-an Integrated Farm School, shared her expertise on Science and Technology Writing. Her discussion emphasized the importance of communicating scientific information clearly, accurately and responsibly to readers.

The session also highlighted the relevance of science and technology journalism in today’s modern and rapidly changing world. Held with enthusiasm and collaboration, the workshop became a venue for participants to discover the true essence of responsible journalism, sharpen their writing abilities and develop a deeper appreciation for the power of words in shaping communities and inspiring change.
The training workshop formally opened with an inspiring message from sir Ariel Z. Zubiaga, Public Schools District Supervisor of New Washington. In his address, he emphasized the importance of journalism in promoting truth, critical thinking, and responsible communication among learners. He encouraged participants to use their voices wisely and become instruments of positive transformation in society.

Equally enriching was the session on Editorial Writing by ma'am Phama Lea R. Bullag, Junior High School English Teacher of Aklan Valley High School Foundation, Inc. Her discussion highlighted the importance of expressing informed opinions, analyzing social issues and writing persuasive editorials that reflect truth and critical insight.
Participants were guided in developing strong arguments, organizing ideas effectively and writing impactful editorials that resonate with readers. The session inspired learners to become critical thinkers and responsible communicators who can influence others through meaningful and well-supported opinions.
The workshop was filled with exciting and engaging activities that promoted collaboration, creativity and active participation among both teachers and learners.
