🏆Success starts with good communication.
Here are some points to speaking confidently:
🧠State your opinions with conviction. Make sure you believe in what you say without being arrogant. Refrain using the phrases, "I think that…" or, "But maybe…". They make your statement appear less forceful.
👁️Make eye contact. Eye contact will help others to listen to your thinking carefully. Looking down at the floor or looking around will not make you look confident.
👍Use the shortcut method for better speaking. Remember the following strategies:
-Plan appropriately.
-Practice.
-Engage with your audience.
-Pay attention to body language.
-Think and speak positively.
-Cope with your nerves.
🕵️‍♀️Watch recordings of your speeches. This will help you to improve each time.
✅Know the room. Arrive early, walk around the speaking area and practice using the microphone and any visual aids. It's far better to know what you're facing than to have a big surprise -- and a blow to your confidence -- on the day of the big event.
👏💯Visualize success. Imagine yourself speaking, your voice loud, clear and confident. Visualize the audience clapping – it will boost your confidence.
✅Know your audience. Knowing who you're talking to can go a long way in helping you speak with confidence.
😊Have confident body language. Body language can go a long way in making you appear and feel confident.
👍Know your material. Pick a topic you are interested in. Know more about it than you include in your speech or conversation.
💯Praise yourself every day. Remind yourself of all of the great things you've accomplished and worked so hard for.

🤷‍♀️Have you ever caught yourself saying something like this: “Then I was like, OMG, then like, he went there, and like…”?
In a speech, there are filler words that give us more time to think about our response--they are called CRUTCH WORDS.
We all use crutch words. They help us fill the gap in a conversation or speech when we're unsure of how to proceed or haven't quite thought out the best way to position something. They are also formed out of habit. We don't even realize that we're using them, and that's where it gets dangerous. These words weaken the point we are trying to make. It distracts from the purpose of the message and dilutes its strength. Even something as simple as "It's nice out" sounds much more confident and appealing than "So, um, it's nice out."

👩‍🏫Remember, crutch words are still words. It means that there is a right way to use them. But more often than not, they're used incorrectly or unnecessarily.

🤔Due to the multiple meanings of phrasal verbs, we often misuse them when structuring sentences.

❓What is a phrasal verb, anyway?
A phrasal verb is a combination of words (a verb + a preposition or verb +adverb) that when used together, usually take on a different meaning to that of the original verb.

Let's use the verb GIVE.
👉give in
: to finally agree to what someone wants, after refusing for a period of time
: to accept that you have been defeated and agree to stop competing or fighting
: to decide to do what someone else wants
Ex:
Keep asking and eventually she'll give in.
You'll never guess the answer - do you give in?
Our kids kept begging us to take them to the beach, and finally we gave in.

👉give away
: to tell a secret or show your feelings unintentionally
: to supply something at no charge
Ex:
I'm not giving away any plot surprises; read the review in the paper if you want to know them.
They’re giving away shopping bags.

👉give up
: to stop trying to guess
: to stop trying to do something before you have finished, usually because it is too difficult
Ex:
"Do you give up?" "No, I want another clue."
She has a struggle trying to persuade the board to accept her proposal, but she's determined not to give up.

👉give off
: to produce heat. light, a smell, or a gas
Ex:
That tiny radiator doesn't give off much heat.

👉give out
: If a machine or part of your body gives out, it stops working
: to complain about something you have
: to last no longer, or to work no longer
Ex:
He was old and his heart just gave out.
She's running out of things to give out about.

Poems are fun to read! 😊

📜A poem is a collection of spoken or written words that expresses ideas or emotions in a powerfully vivid and imaginative style. Writers or poets express their emotions through this medium more easily, as they face difficulty when expressing through some other medium. Its main function is to convey an idea or emotion in beautiful language. It paints a picture of what the poet feels about a thing, person, idea, concept, or even an object.

Here is a poem that will surely make you love the English language more. 😉

I take it you already know

"I take it you already know
Of tough and bough and cough and dough?
Others may stumble, but not you,
On hiccough, thorough, lough and through?
Well done! And now you wish, perhaps,
To learn of less familiar traps?
Beware of heard, a dreadful word
That looks like beard and sounds like bird,
And dead: it's said like bed, not bead -
For goodness sake don't call it deed!
Watch out for meat and great and threat
(They rhyme with suite and straight and debt).
A moth is not a moth in mother,
Nor both in bother, broth in brother,
And here is not a match for there
Nor dear and fear for bear and pear,
And then there's dose and rose and lose -
Just look them up - and goose and choose,
And cork and work and card and ward,
And font and front and word and sword,
And do and go and thwart and cart -
Come, come, I've hardly made a start!
A dreadful language? Man alive!
I'd mastered it when I was five!"

What do you say about the idea or emotion that the writer wants to convey about English? Do you feel the same way? 😊

Student engagement(PART 2)

🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️EMBRACE COLLABORATIVE LEARNING
Students should work effectively with others to expand their participation. Learners & the teacher should establish a connection for effective collaborative learning to happen.
✅ESTABLISH POSITIVE TEACHER-STUDENT RELATIONSHIPS
When students form close & caring relationships with their teachers, they fulfill their developmental need for connection with others & a sense of belonging in society (Scales, 1991) which can be facilitated by
-caring about students' social & emotional needs
-displaying positive attitudes & enthusiasm
-increasing one-on-one time with students
-treating students fairly
-avoiding deception or promise-breaking
👍PROMOTE MASTERY ORIENTATIONS
Students who are more concerned with the eagerness to learn & understand rather than those concerned with their performance p***e have extensive engagement.
To encourage this, we may consider the following:
-building success in terms of learning rather than performing
-emphasizing individual progress by reducing social comparison
-recognizing student improvement and effort

Part✌️
😎Maintain a Personal Lexicon
By keeping a personalized list of learned words, you’ll have a handy reference you can use to review these words later. You’ll likely want to go back and refresh your memory on recent words, so keeping them in your list is much more efficient than going back to the dictionary every time.
😉Follow a Process
To make vocabulary improvement a permanent habit in your everyday life, you should make it as habitual, automatic, and tightly integrated in your daily workflow as possible–otherwise you won’t do it when your days get too busy.
🎭Play and Have Fun
Playing games and engaging in group activities are useful in any kind of learning, but particularly effective for language-related learning. Gather your family and friends and play word games together. Some interesting options are Quiddler, as well as the classics Scrabble and Boggle.
🆙Leverage Every Resource You Can
The Internet is a gold mine of resources for vocabulary building.
👌Diversify
Do something different from your daily routine–any activity that is not a part of your normal life can become a great way to learn new words, as every niche has its jargon and unique ways of communicating. Read different books and magazines than the ones you’re used to. Watch foreign-language movies. Take up new hobbies, hang out with different people.

The English language is fun and cool!😎
Why don't we look at this one of the interesting facts about the English language?

👩‍🏫Did you know that the combination “ough” can be pronounced in 10 different ways?
"Pronunciation" refers to the way in which we make the sound of words." The pronunciations of words in English vary from simple to complex.
Over the centuries, spelling in the English language was inconsistent, causing the pronunciation of vowels (and even some consonants) to dramatically change. This, plus the fact that English has borrowed words from multiple languages around the world, means combinations like ough have evolved in many different ways.

👉The following sentence contains them all: “A rough-coated, dough-faced, thoughtful ploughman strode through the streets of Scarborough; after falling into a slough, he coughed and hiccoughed.”

So, what do you say? 🤷
Have you successfully read the sentence and pronounced "ough" in 10 different ways? 😊
