Ang Saint Michael College of Caraga ay kaisa ng buong sambayanang Pilipino sa pagdiriwang ng Araw ng Kalayaan. Sa paggunita sa katapangan at sakripisyo ng ating mga bayani, nawa’y patuloy nating pahalagahan ang kalayaang kanilang ipinaglaban at isabuhay ang pagmamahal sa bayan sa pamamagitan ng tapat na paglilingkod, pagkakaisa, at pananagutan bilang mamamayan.

The Social Sciences Department of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) of Saint Michael College of Caraga proudly joins the entire Filipino nation in the observance of the National Flag Days from May 28 to June 12, 2026.

This annual commemoration serves as a meaningful reminder of the valor, sacrifice, and patriotism of the Filipino people in their enduring struggle for freedom and national sovereignty. As educators and learners of history, governance, culture, and society, the Social Sciences Department recognizes the Philippine flag as a powerful symbol of unity, identity, and democratic ideals that continue to shape the nation’s collective aspirations.

In line with this observance, the department encourages all Michaelinians to demonstrate respect and reverence for the Philippine flag by promoting patriotism, historical consciousness, civic responsibility, and active participation in nation-building. May this celebration inspire every Filipino, especially the youth, to deepen their appreciation of the country’s rich heritage and to uphold the values of dignity, solidarity, and service to the nation.

The 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 of 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐚 (𝐒𝐌𝐂𝐂) proudly joins the entire nation in the observance of the 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐠 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 from 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟖 to 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟐, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔.

This annual commemoration serves as a reminder of the courage, patriotism, and sacrifices of the Filipino people in the pursuit of freedom and national identity. May 28 was chosen as the beginning of the National Flag Days as it marks the anniversary of the historic Battle of Alapan in 1898. During this significant event, Filipino revolutionary forces under the leadership of General Emilio Aguinaldo, who had returned from exile on May 18, 1898, triumphed over Spanish forces in Alapan, Imus, Cavite.

In celebration of the victory, General Aguinaldo unfurled for the very first time the new Philippine National Flag before the Filipino people at the Teatro Caviteño in Cavite City. The flag, crafted by Marcela Mariño de Agoncillo in Hong Kong, featured the red and blue fields with a white triangle bearing a radiant sun with eight rays and three stars, symbols that continue to embody the ideals, struggles, and aspirations of the Filipino nation.

As we honor the National Flag Days, may we continue to uphold the values of patriotism, unity, historical consciousness, and responsible citizenship. Let the Philippine flag remain a symbol of our enduring commitment to nation-building and love of country.

The Faculty of the Social Sciences Department of the SMCC College of Arts and Sciences successfully conducted its Syllabi Review and Revision Meeting today, May 22, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the LRC – College Library Discussion Room.

The meeting was spearheaded by Dean Rolly D. Llanos and attended by Program Chair Paul Eric Bacong, Dr. Princess L. Varona, Ronah F. Ong, and Jessa Claire Bernadette V. Cabusao.

The activity focused on the review, enhancement, and revision of course syllabi for the Social Sciences subjects offered under the General Education Courses (GEC), namely: GEC 1 – Understanding the Self, GEC 2 – Readings in Philippine History, GEC 5 – The Contemporary World, GEC 7 – Arts Appreciation, GEC 8 – Life and Works of Jose Rizal, GEC 9 – Ethics, GEC ELECT 2 – Gender and Society, and GEC ELECT 3 – Philippine Popular Culture.

The Syllabi Review and Revision Meeting was conducted in preparation for the 1st Semester of the School Year 2026–2027, ensuring that course contents remain responsive, relevant, and aligned with the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and quality instruction.

Through this collaborative undertaking, the Social Sciences Department continues to strengthen its dedication to delivering transformative and outcomes-based education for SMCC students.
