RESEARCH IN ACTION: TURNING SCHOOL CONCERNS INTO SOLUTIONS

Today, Ma’am Gladys M. Samia and Dr. Elymar A. Pascual formally submitted their action research proposals to School Principal ERENE SJ. PANOPIO EdD, Principal III, of Talangan Integrated National High School.

The proposals include “From Queue to Class: Evaluating the Impact of a School Canteen Pre-Order Service on Academic Performance among Senior High School Students,” which examines whether a pre-order system can reduce waiting time and provide learners with more time for learning and rest; “Egg of Responsibility Challenge: A Three-Phase Intervention for Developing Sense of Responsibility and Improving Learners’ Academic Performance,” which explores an experiential intervention designed to develop learners’ sense of responsibility and ultimately affect their academic performance; and “A Longitudinal Analysis of Grade 11 and Grade 12 Numeracy Performance: Basis for a School-Based Numeracy Enhancement Program,” authored by Dr. Elymar A. Pascual and Dr. Erene SJ. Panopio, which analyzes the numeracy performance of the same cohort from Grade 11 to Grade 12 using RMA and LINK Test results as a basis for a school-based numeracy enhancement program.

These initiatives form part of Project INQUIRY, a school-based research initiative started two years ago by Dr. Pascual to assist teachers and learners in developing research that responds to real school and community needs.

This is only the beginning, as more research proposals are expected to be submitted in the coming weeks, further strengthening the culture of inquiry, innovation, and evidence-based practice at TINHS.

Research that begins with questions can lead to solutions that make a difference.

BUILDING A STRONG RESEARCH CULTURE THROUGH PROJECT INQUIRY

Talangan Integrated National High School successfully conducted the Learning Action Cell (LAC) Session, "From Classroom to Research: A LAC Session on Crafting Action and Basic Research Proposals," on August 3, 2026, facilitated by Dr. Elymar A. Pascual, Master Teacher II. The session strengthened teachers' competencies in developing action and basic research proposals—from identifying research problems and crafting titles to preparing methodologies, innovations, dissemination plans, and research utilization—through discussions, workshops, and pre- and post-assessments. The activity concluded with an inspiring message from Dr. Erene SJ. Panopio, Principal III, reminding teachers that research should always serve the best interests of learners.

This LAC is part of Project INQUIRY (Individualized Navigation and Quality Understanding IN Research Yield), a research capacity-building initiative conceptualized by Dr. Elymar A. Pascual and now continuously sustained under the leadership of Dr. Erene SJ. Panopio. The project continues to nurture a vibrant culture of research among TINHS teachers and the Nagcarlan Sub-Office.

As part of this commitment, Dr. Pascual has also been instrumental in the publication—with ISBN—of the Book of Abstracts for the past two school years, featuring the research abstracts of both TINHS and Nagcarlan Sub-Office teacher-researchers.

THE 4X4 KLOTZKI PUZZLE

Did you know that the 4×4 Klotzki Puzzle is one of the world's most famous sliding block puzzles, challenging players for over a century? Played on a 4×4 grid, the puzzle consists of blocks of different sizes that slide horizontally or vertically within the board. The objective is to carefully move the pieces and guide the largest block to the designated exit using the fewest possible moves. Although the rules are simple, solving the puzzle requires careful planning, logical reasoning, and the ability to think several steps ahead. Every move changes the positions of the other blocks, making each decision important and encouraging players to analyze patterns, anticipate consequences, and develop efficient strategies. This timeless puzzle has fascinated mathematicians, educators, and puzzle enthusiasts because it transforms a simple game into an engaging exercise in problem-solving and strategic thinking. Now it's your turn to accept the challenge! Slide the blocks, plan every move with care, and discover the sequence that leads the master block to freedom. Invite your friends or classmates to compete for the fewest moves and compare your solving techniques. Every puzzle you complete strengthens your planning skills, patience, concentration, and confidence, proving that great solutions begin with thoughtful decisions and persistence.

THE KALEIDOSCOPE

Did you know that a kaleidoscope is more than just a colorful toy—it is a fascinating demonstration of mathematics, geometry, and light? As mirrors reflect colorful objects inside the tube, they create breathtaking patterns that change with every turn. These ever-changing designs beautifully illustrate tessellations, where shapes fit together without gaps or overlaps; frieze patterns, which repeat endlessly in a single direction; and even fractal-like patterns, where similar designs appear at different scales, inspiring the study of self-similarity in nature and mathematics. Because of these remarkable geometric relationships, kaleidoscopes have fascinated artists, scientists, and mathematicians for over two centuries. Every twist offers a new opportunity to observe symmetry, repetition, and spatial relationships in action. Now it's your turn to look through the kaleidoscope and discover a world of endless mathematical beauty! Rotate it slowly, watch the colorful patterns transform before your eyes, and challenge yourself to identify repeating shapes, lines of symmetry, and geometric designs. Share the experience with your friends or classmates and compare the amazing patterns you discover. Every colorful view strengthens your spatial skills, sharpens your observation, sparks your imagination, and reminds you that mathematics can be found in the most beautiful creations all around us.

THE TRIANGLE FLIP PUZZLE

Did you know that this fascinating brain teaser, often called a Triangle Flip Puzzle or Flexible Geometric Flip Puzzle, demonstrates how simple geometric shapes can create extraordinary movement? Made of 16 connected triangles, with every four triangles forming a square, the puzzle features two contrasting colors—one on the outer surfaces and another hidden inside the folds. The challenge is to flip the entire puzzle inside out so that the hidden color becomes visible, all without separating or damaging the connected pieces. Although the puzzle seems impossible at first, its clever hinged design allows it to transform through a precise sequence of folds and rotations. Solving it requires careful observation, spatial visualization, patience, and logical reasoning, making it an excellent activity for strengthening imagination and critical thinking. Every successful flip reveals the beauty of geometry, symmetry, and mathematical design while reminding us that appearances can change through the right perspective. Now it's your turn to accept the challenge! Explore every fold, experiment with different movements, and discover the secret that turns the puzzle inside out. Share the experience with your friends or classmates, compare techniques, and enjoy the satisfaction of solving a puzzle that transforms not only its colors but also the way you think.

THE METAL MONTESSORI PUZZLE WIRE

Did you know that the Metal Montessori Puzzle Wire is a classic disentanglement puzzle that has challenged curious minds for generations? At first glance, the two interlocked metal pieces may seem impossible to separate, but the solution depends not on force, but on careful observation, logical reasoning, and creative thinking. The goal is to separate the two metal pieces without bending, breaking, or changing their original shape, making every successful solution a rewarding demonstration of patience and strategy. As you experiment with different movements, you'll strengthen your spatial awareness, critical thinking, imagination, and problem-solving skills while learning that persistence often leads to discovery. Each failed attempt is not a mistake but an opportunity to understand the puzzle better and develop a smarter approach. Now it's your turn to accept the challenge! Study the puzzle from every angle, think before you move, and discover the sequence that unlocks the solution. Invite your friends or classmates to solve it as well, compare strategies, and see who can separate the pieces first. Every twist and turn exercises your brain, builds confidence, and reminds you that the greatest puzzles are solved not by strength, but by thoughtful reasoning, creativity, determination, and the willingness to keep trying until success is achieved.
