The UNC University Research Center proudly congratulates 𝗗𝗿. 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗮, an alumnus of the University of Nueva Caceres’ School of Social and Natural Sciences, for being invited as a resource speaker at the 𝟮𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, organized by the Department of Health. 🧬📖

During Breakout Session 2, themed “Evidence-Informed Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) in Health,” Dr. Lauraya shared insights from his doctoral dissertation, “How Leadership Behavior Shapes Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Performance: Evidence from the Bicol Region.”

The forum was held from September 21 to 24, 2025, at the Workspaces Building in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Dr. Lauraya earned his Doctor of Philosophy, major in Behavioral Management, from UNC as a member of Batch 2025. His participation underscores the importance of using data-driven research to understand pressing societal concerns and transform evidence into practical, real-world solutions. Through research that connects academic inquiry with community realities, scholars can help strengthen leadership, inform decision-making, and improve disaster risk reduction and management practices.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗩𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 ☘️

On August 27, 2026, the UNC Sports Palace brought together around 700 students, faculty members, and non-teaching personnel for Engaging Communities, Generating Knowledge: A Seminar on Community-Based Research and Practice. 👩‍🏫

The program opened with a Community Voice Opener, a testimonial video featuring beneficiaries of UNC extension programs, followed by opening remarks from Mr. James Paul O. Cavite, LPT, Institutionalized Community Extension Services Director.

The UNC community was also inspired by the Message of Solidarity with Communities delivered by Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya, University President, highlighting the importance of meaningful partnerships and shared learning with communities.

The seminar was led by Dr. Rowena F. Zoilo, PhD, Regional Techno Transfer Cluster Coordinator of the Bicol Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (BCAARRD), based at BU Guinobatan, Guinobatan, Albay.

Through discussions on the foundations of Community-Based Research and its role in creating impact, along with interactive activities such as the Knowledge Check and Real-Time Reflections and Takeaways, participants were encouraged to recognize the value of research that listens to, collaborates with, and responds to communities.

Thank you to all students, faculty members, non-teaching personnel, organizers, and partners who made this gathering a success. May this seminar continue to inspire the UNC community to listen, learn, collaborate, and create research that leads to meaningful impact. 👏

The University of Nueva Caceres Research Center, under the leadership of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Linkages, Engr. Christine Bautista, and Research Director, Engr. Claze Therese Lasala, successfully conducted the seminar, "𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀," reaffirming the University's commitment to advancing research excellence within its academic community.

The whole-day learning session featured 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐰𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐚, Program Head of the College of Criminal Justice Education, as the resource speaker. Dr. Delaluna shared valuable insights on crafting compelling research introductions and developing sound, well-structured research methodologies—two of the most essential components of quality research.

Beyond the lecture sessions, participants actively engaged in hands-on writing activities and practical exercises, enabling them to apply the concepts discussed throughout the seminar immediately. The program also included an evaluation to assess participants' learning and measure the training's overall effectiveness.

Through initiatives like this, the University of Nueva Caceres continues to cultivate a strong research culture by equipping educators, researchers, and future scholars with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to produce relevant, high-quality, and impactful research.
