LAMHA - Violence in Genocide

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙞𝙨 𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙬𝙣, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙪𝙚 𝙧𝙪𝙣𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨.

The mere thoughts of how much blood has been shed and sprawled into homes and streets, of how many lives were deprived and shattered into brink of hopelessness, are already beyond unimaginable. So much more is experiencing it firsthand would be.

The best that we could do is to not follow the same pattern of apathy that ushered the genocide's victims into these dire straits. The best that we could do is to know where we stand, why we should, and how we can mount a contribution to the fight against holocaust in hopes of restoration, peace and liberty.

For four days, we have embodied strength and confidence to let the community know that we belong to the side that acknowledges human dignity and the universal rights for everyone to live in harmony and equal rights.

𝗡𝗼𝘄, 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗿𝗮𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁.

It's about time to put down the banner painted with the phrase "LAMHA: Art Exhibit", disintegrate our displays, and place back to screened corner our various art pieces. Yet, we insist to hold our fist up— believing that our sense of compassion and drive for common good ought to resurface and remain as is— most especially that groups and races persist, albeit defenseless, to endure the injustice

The end is about to dawn, but the darkness is yet to meet the sunrise.

Today, 9 May 2024, marks the final stretch of our Art Exhibit entitled LAMHA: Violence in Genocide. The four-day streak of this project saw a profound effort of 'Leveraging on Arts as Means To Hoist Awareness (LAMHA) on Colonialism in Today's Contemporary World'. In those times, we were never less determined to bear our why's into our everyday venture in opening and closing this art display.

However, before it's finally brought to a close, the stories of tragedies still are wide open for us to hear. From afar, let's catch on this clamor, listen upon the echoes of debris and straits.

Hence, we, the people behind this initiative, invites you for one last time to bear the flag of resistance with us, indicative of our compassionate outlook on the oppressed and victims of this massive catastrophe— whether online through our page, or onsite here at our university.

It is an artwork that depicts decolonization and the systemic oppression of Israel by the Palestinians. I internalized the elements of the red handprints that resemble blood stains and violence that people in Gaza are experiencing until now and the slogan as a movement to call for the end of colonialism and ethnic cleansing.

A child buried in the rubble caused by bombardments struggles to reach his hand out to play with his toy airplane for the very last time. The plane was the only symbol of freedom that the child could grasp.

The literary work talks about hope, which is symbolized by candles. The work captures the hope that is diminishing from the people of Gaza at every attack made against them. Paradoxical Exodus is a poem written tackling the genocide that is happening in Palestine. It conveys the irony that is currently happening―how settlers, Israel, claim a land that isn’t theirs and use violence to do so, creating intersectional problems in the global stage that are irreparable.

I wanted to create an artwork that not only catches the attention, but also disturbs the people. To let them know what is happening in the world, especially with Palestine. The message I want to convey is that amidst the violence, the suffering and loss of lives, the Palestinians want one thing, living in their land freely. That is why it emphasizes the following elements, the bloody hand representing the Palestinians, National Bird & Flower: Palestine Sunbird representing freedom & Palestinian Poppy (Anemone Coronaria) representing the relationship where the Palestinians give life to the land of Palestine, and the colors: red, green, white and black, are the colors of the flag of Palestine.
