BISCAST and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Naga officially commenced their partnership through signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the development of a comprehensive Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) on December 18.
As the proponent of the research project on SUMP development, BSCE Program Chairperson Engr. Edmer Flores led the collaboration with the local government to improve the transportation system here in Naga in line with the development of the cityโs Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP).
"Implementing a comprehensive transportation plan is urgent to address these challenges, enhance mobility, reduce environmental impact, and improve overall quality of life for residents," he said.
Engr. Flores believed that effective urban mobility planning requires collaboration with (LGUs) for seamless integration into the existing infrastructure and policies and for a more sustainable and locally relevant approach.
"The partnership with LGU Naga provides valuable insights into local dynamics, challenges, and opportunities. This collaboration enhances the research's contextual relevance and increases the likelihood of successful implementation by incorporating local expertise and perspectives," he emphasized.
A project team from both parties will be formed in creating efficient strategies in response to the heightening transportation problems in the city.
