In my search for an interviewee, I’ve thought of people with wise minds. I’ve interviewed not just one, but two people filled with wisdom to inspire others. Sophia Beatrice N. Gonowon is a grade 12 HUMSS student and trusts in life’s happiness, gentleness, and sincerity in every individual in our society, including ourselves. She aims to experience living even with fear and uncertainty instead of being regretful for not doing the things she wanted.

She says you can show love through genuineness, trust, and support. She adds that generosity can change everything and is the purest form of love one can give. With love, she encourages good decision-making to give future generations. When asked if our society can live without inequality, she states that some levels of inequality are inevitable. The challenge lies in managing it and mitigating its effects in our society.

Alissa M. Perez, a young nurse, aims to be successful through growing and learning personally and professionally to be the best version of herself. She wishes to build meaningful relationships, enjoy a balanced work-life setting, and positively contribute to the community. For her, love is the romantic passion, the unwavering bond of family, the cherished friendships, and the vital self-love that grasps our true selves. She believes that to be a good person, one should practice integrity while being seen as good is superficial and subjective.

As a responsible citizen, Alissa notes that our rational decisions in the present will influence a bright future for later generations. When asked if society can exist without forms of inequality, she noticed its challenges with the differences and uniqueness of everyone. While desiring for an equal society, it might not be feasible if that means to suppress our individuality. Finding the balance in society is essential.

Liyan Noble, a student at Ateneo De Naga University, offers a thoughtful perspective on what it means to live a good life. "𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬". For her, living a good life is about finding contentment in the present moment and recognizing the value of personal growth.

Additionally, Liyan believes that a good life involves having a clear sense of direction for the future and being surrounded by genuine people with good intentions. She highlights the importance of nurturing positive relationships and being a good person to others. This emphasis on authenticity and kindness reflects her core values, shaping her definition of a fulfilling life in a meaningful way.

Ali C. Shaikh a student who has found that he relates to stoicism because in life you cannot control the things that happen to your life; however, how you choose to respond to these events will determine the outcome or at the very least will give you control on how your life goes. Working hard each day to serve as an inspiration to his younger siblings. And his mother who motivates him to keep going despite being a single mother to provide for four children and still be successful. Her work serves as his motivation that nothing is impossible.

He understands that despite the challenges he went through, that he should never give up on anything in life to make his mother proud. 𝐼𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ 𝑒𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑛 𝑦𝑜𝑢'𝑟𝑒 𝑚𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑜𝑛𝑠. From our strengths and weaknesses down to our patience and humility that is what shapes us to be different from others.

“Help others, show kindness, be humble, and set an example. Be the light that brightens the world clouded by negativity, and act according to God’s teachings.”

Emerlinda L. Florendo found that success in life comes not from money or assets but happiness and love. Being a mother of seven children, she values relationships, time, and love more than anything. True and meaningful relationships are not easy to find and they are the most valuable as they cannot be bought with money. You can be the richest person in the world but if you are not content, happy, or do not experience love, life can feel empty. People can find their happiness through kindness and sharing with others. She found hers with her family and loved ones.

There are moments in life when we experience failures and challenges, these experiences are painful and frightening. For Emerlinda, we must not be afraid of failure and face the obstacles in our lives. Failures and obstacles are important and shape us as individuals, these are things that should be seen as lessons learned.

Attorney Raquel M. Quiniano-Candelaria’s philosophy in life is centered around the concept of self-belief and the power of positive thinking. She believes that trusting in one’s abilities and maintaining a positive mindset can lead to achieving great things. With this, she never lets her doubts overpower neither her determination nor her passion.

When facing life’s obstacles, she believes that everything happens for a reason. No matter how dire or awful as situation may be, Atty. Quelly believes that something good can still come from it. This might be a life lesson, a character development, or a stronger self - she is open to new ideas and relearning. In addition, she has faith in God and his greater plan for her. For the things she cannot control, she lets them go and trusts God. She prays for the grace to forgive and understand why things are happening the way are together with the grace of an optimistic mind.

If she can share a piece of advice with others, she said that it would be to believe in ourselves because our thoughts, dreams, and beliefs have the power to shape our realities.

Intelligence is something we can develop through dedication and hard work. Meet 𝑃𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝐴𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑎 𝑅. 𝐺𝑎𝑟𝑐𝑖𝑎, a HUMSS student who is currently studying at Naga College Foundation Inc. For her, success is not all about mere achievements; it’s about personal growth, exploring her potential, and making a meaningful change to the people around her. Growing up in a challenging environment has shaped her resilience and independence, reinforcing her belief that true growth is born from overcoming obstacles.

She understands that while challenges can be discouraging, they are essential to our development and are gates to new opportunities. Precious differentiates personal growth from personal change, emphasizing that growth is a continuous journey of self-discovery, while change is the specific outcomes or transformations we encounter.

Moreover, she sees failure not as an endpoint but as a vital teacher; she embraces life’s lessons, knowing that every setback is a step toward greater success. Her story reminds us all that in serving others, we can uplift ourselves and those around us.
