Us humans have a long-standing relationship with fire. With its life-giving powers through cooking and giving the warm embrace in our homes, the fire also has its life-claiming powers by engulfing us and swallowing our homes.

This Fire Prevention Month, be informed on how to prevent and mitigate fire situations. With this, remember the term “Fire Triangle”.

Fire needs three things to keep it going and these three are what we know as the Fire Triangle. These three main components are Oxygen, Heat, and Fuel. Take any one of these components out and you can take out any fire.

This concept is widely used by firefighters around the globe through the use of fire extinguishers. Each pump removes or minimizes one component from the equation, thus preventing any more fire from being produced or being able to spread.

Now you know how to not “this girl is on fire” or prevent your properties from being on fire. Stay safe Naguenians!

According to PAGASA, March is considered to be the warmest month in the Philippine Archipelago. Due to this, many fire cases can be recorded during the month

This March, we celebrate Fire Prevention Month with the theme of “SA PAG IWAS NG SUNOG, ‘DI KA NAG-IISA". In commemoration of the event, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) along with various agencies encouraged various communities and households to practice drills and safe housekeeping to mitigate damages.

The celebration of the Fire Prevention Month was first issued by former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. through the Presidential Proclamation 115-A s. 1966. The event aims to raise awareness for fire prevention and mitigation.

Marie Curie is not just a scientific icon. She is a woman known for breaking boundaries and making the impossible, possible. Marie was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and win one twice.

Marie, along with her husband Pierre, are very prominent figures in the field of Chemistry and Physics. Curie was first awarded the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize in 1903 for her contributions in radiation research and coining the word “Radioactivity”.

She did not stop there as went on to be the only person who has ever won two Nobels in different sciences by winning the Chemistry Prize in 1911 for discovering the radioactive elements polonium and radium due to material decay.

Being a woman of Science during this era is proven to be a very difficult feat. Despite this, she went on to become the first ever woman to attain a Doctorate degree in France. She also became the first woman to preach Physics at the prestigious Sorbonne University; further solidifying her name in the record books.

The field of Science knows no bounds. Anyone can practice this, regardless of being a man or woman. You just need a little bit of knowledge, patience, and the will to defy what others may think to be impossible.
