In partnership with Caritas Christi Prayer and Renewal Center, BAROPS invites our barristers to a one-day recollection centered on mental rest, prayer, reflection, and spiritual preparation as we enter the final stretch of the Bar journey.

There is a reason mountains are climbed before the sun's morning rays steal the remaining stars. The trail is darkest just before the first light appears. Every step feels uncertain. The summit seems impossibly far.

Yet those who continue walking know a quiet truth: the sun has already begun to rise, even before their eyes can witness its ascent.

That is what SOLANA means.
More than sunrise, SOLANA is the promise that light faithfully follows every long night. It is hope breaking through exhaustion. It is grace meeting perseverance. It is the certainty that no darkness lasts forever.

The journey to the Bar has never been about reaching a destination overnight. It has been a slow, relentless ascent—one page at a time, one recitation every session, one failure overcome, one lesson learned, one prayer whispered when no one else was listening.

Like every mountain, this one demanded something of you. It asked you to let go of comfort. To keep climbing when your legs grow weary. To trust the trail even when you could not see where it led.

Along the way, you may not have noticed how much you were changing. Growth rarely announces itself. Like roots beneath the soil, it happens quietly, patiently, and faithfully. The strongest foundations are often the ones hidden from view.

There were companions who walked beside you for a season, and there were stretches of the trail you had to face alone. Both were necessary. Every encounter shaped you. Every goodbye lightened your load. Every hardship strengthened your footing.

Perhaps that is the greatest lesson the mountain teaches us: the summit is never reached by accident. It is earned through countless ordinary steps that no one applauds.

If today you are afraid, know that courage has never meant the absence of fear. Courage is choosing to climb despite it. Doing it scared is still bravery. For the Bar is not merely an examination of memory—it is the culmination of every unseen sacrifice, every silent battle, every morning you chose discipline over comfort, every night you chose hope over surrender.

Soon, dawn will arrive. The horizon you have been walking toward will finally unfold before you. The climb that once felt endless will become the story of how you discovered your own strength. When you stand at the peak, may you realize that the greatest victory was never simply passing the Bar. It was becoming the kind of person who refused to stop climbing.

One day, the sun will rise over this chapter of your life, and you will realize that it was never the sunrise that transformed you.

It was the climb. So, as you take these final steps, may you carry with you the spirit of SOLANA.

The UNC School of Law COMELEC is honored to introduce Fiscal Herman M. Cledera as our COMELEC Adviser.

With a distinguished career in the legal profession, Fiscal Cledera has served as a Public Prosecutor of the DOJ Office of the City Prosecutor, Naga City, law professor, legal counsel, and practicing lawyer. He is likewise a partner at Cledera-Tordilla-Cledera Law & Accounting Office.

His years of experience in law, legal education, and public service bring invaluable wisdom and guidance to the Commission as we carry out our mandate with integrity, impartiality, transparency, and accountability.
