Taking care of stressed pets can be quite a challenge, especially when they're not big fans of things they don't like. But don't worry, I've got your back! Let me share some awesome tips to make bath time a breeze for both you and your furry friend:

1. Get Everything Prepared Before Bath Time

Before you start bathing your pet, make sure you have all the necessary items within arm's reach. This way, you won't have to scramble around and risk your pet making a great escape. Apart from pet shampoo and a towel, don't forget to lay down a non-slip mat to keep your furry buddy stable and secure during the bath.

2. Give Your Pet A Nice Brushing Session

To make the bathing process easier for your pet, give them a good brushing beforehand. This helps get rid of any tangles and big clumps of dirt that might be a bit tricky to clean when they're all wet. Plus, it's a great way to help your pet relax before bath time.

Managing Your Dog's Skin Problems

An itchy dog is an unhappy dog. What should or can one do about it? Is there any way one can avoid costly consultations and medical fees to better help and understand your little furkid’s skin problems?

You may notice signs of skin problems in your dog when they often lick, scratch, or chew on a certain part of their body. Some people might attribute this as ‘habitual behavior’ and decide to pass this action off as harmless. Allowing your dog to continue aggravating the affected area will worsen and could lead to further bacterial or fungal infections.

Let's look at some ways we can help identify and bring some relief to our itchy dog!

📌Be aware that your dog’s skin problems are caused by dermatitis. Dermatitis is the condition where skin problems cause inflammation that leads to constant itching.

- Itching
- Chewing or Licking
- Hair Loss - a worrisome condition caused by allergic reactions, bacterial infections, fungal infection, or parasites.
- Hot Spots (AKA Moist Dermatitis or Rashes) are the lesions caused by excessive dog licking and scratching. The irritated area opens the door to bacterial and fungal infection.

The best option for having to avoid the majority of your dog’s skin problems is to:

✔️Identify potential allergens or certain foods your dog might be allergic to

✔️Go to animal clinics and get your vet to do an allergy test.

✔️Keep your dogs clean (vitally important)
Use shampoo specially designed for dogs

✔️Add supplements to help ensure they get the nutrients necessary for good skin health. Supplements that are rich in:

👉OMEGA fatty acids and FISH OIL - keep the skin moisturised, they also reduce inflammation and boost the immune system, reducing the chances of a skin infection.

👉COCONUT oil - it can be used both externally as a moisturiser and fed as a food supplement.

📌 Factor in age when considering which shampoo to get for your dog

Young canines have far more fragile skin than their adult counterparts. As a result, regular adult shampoos’ ingredients could irritate puppies’ skin.

📌 Avoid using human shampoo on puppies because their PH level is inappropriate. A dog’s skin is very close to a neutral pH and significantly more alkaline than human skin.

Even the human baby shampoos designed for the sensitive baby skin are unsuitable for puppies’ coats and skin.

📌 Wait until your puppy is 3 months or older before you bathe him/her with shampoo for the first time. Before that, cleaning with a damp cloth soaked with warm water is sufficient.

- Determine the bathing frequency of your puppy by considering his/ her coat length, coat type & lifestyle.

- Puppies with longer coats like (e.g., Collies) need more frequent baths.

- Puppies with thicker undercoats (e.g., German Shepherds) require more bathing.

- Of course, active puppies naturally get dirty faster and would thus need to be bathed more often than their laidback puppies.

- Opt for ultra-mild shampoos that wash out very easily, so nothing is left behind on the fur or skin.

- Select PH-appropriate dog shampoos that are especially formulated for a dog’s skin (between 6.5 to 7.5).

- Choose shampoos with moisturising ingredients (e.g., aloe vera and oatmeal) to help your puppy look and feel its best, attaining shiny skin.

Grooming is essential for your pet’s physical, physiological & psychological well-being.

✂️Nail clipping – Besides preventing dirt accumulation & nasty scratches, unclipped nails over time will result in longer quicks(!) & this is something you cannot reverse! … and if his pawpads are not firmly planted on the ground when he walks, he adjusts his walking & this will have a negative impact on its joints.

🐾 Paw pad fur shaving – If your pet is gliding and having trouble getting off the marble floor, he has fur as socks. A shaven paw greatly helps lessen joint pains for older dogs.

🪒Belly and a**l area shave – It’s time for your pet to get his shave if he has a lingering p*e and poo smell.
