Earth is an oblate spheroid!🌎

𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗘𝗧 𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗛’𝗦 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗘 𝗜𝗦 𝗢𝗕𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗦𝗣𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗜𝗗 🌏

Earth is not flat. Images from the Artemis II mission once again highlight our planet’s true shape. But, the Rarth isn’t a perfect sphere, it’s an oblate spheroid.

Our planet is slightly flattened at the poles and about 43 kilometers wider at the equator. This bulge forms because Earth spins, creating centrifugal force that pushes material outward, much like spinning pizza dough.

While mountains, oceans, and valleys add tiny irregularities, these account for only about 0.001% of Earth’s radius, making the oblate spheroid shape an excellent overall approximation.

Students from 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 7 & 8 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 & 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐒𝐏-𝐒𝐓𝐄) and 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 11 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌 Strand of 𝐓𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐨 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥, together with their dedicated Research and Science teachers, took part in the recently concluded 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐰𝐚𝐠 2026, a Community-Based Research Congress facilitated by 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 - 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐬 at Kalibo Pilot Elementary School.

Students witnessed inspiring research oral presentations and hands-on laboratory skills demonstrations, sparking new ideas and skills. Teachers also joined valuable training workshops on research. ​Congratulations to Grade 7-STE Gold for successfully defending their research during the Scientific Presentation and Analysis of Research Knowledge (SPARK) 2026. Guided by their Research Teacher, Ma'am Tiffany Anne V. Venus, the students presented their work before a panel of examiners consisting of Ma'am Ma. Erralyn R. Togoto and Sir Earl S. Briones.

​Throughout the sessions, these young researchers showcased the exceptional critical thinking skills, technical knowledge, and scientific discipline required by the Special Program in Science, Technology, and Engineering.
