The four-day capacity-building activity brought together incubatees and participants from various higher education institutions and BFAR regional offices to strengthen competencies in molecular diagnostics for fish health management.
The training was facilitated by the ๐๐-๐ก๐๐ฅ๐๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ต๐ป๐ผ๐น๐ผ๐ด๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ (๐๐๐) headed by its Center Chief, ๐๐ฟ. ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ฎ๐ป๐ผ ๐. ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ, ๐๐ฟ., together with the FBC technical experts and resource speakers, ๐๐ฟ. ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐-๐ก๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ผ๐ and ๐๐ฟ. ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ. The training combined lectures with intensive hands-on laboratory exercises covering fish necropsy, bacterial isolation and purification, biochemical testing, DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), agarose gel electrophoresis (AGE), and the interpretation of molecular diagnostic results for the detection of ๐๐ต๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฑ๐ต๐ฐ๐ค๐ฐ๐ค๐ค๐ถ๐ด spp., one of the major bacterial pathogens affecting tilapia production. By equipping participants with practical skills in disease detection and diagnosis, the program supports the adoption of science-based technologies that contribute to healthier aquaculture systems and improved fish production. Through their participation, Ms. Taka and Mr. Delloro, Jr. further strengthen the college's commitment to advancing fisheries biotechnology, research, extension, and innovation in support of a sustainable and resilient aquaculture industry.
