Angelie V. Delos Santos, Karlo Rene A. Leonida, Mark Paul A. Llena, and Leica Gayle J. Zapanta, incoming fourth-year BS Biology major in Animal Biology students from Mindanao State Universityโ€“General Santos, successfully completed their 162-hour On-the-Job Training (OJT) at the Center for Microplastic Research and Innovation (CMRI) of Mindanao State University at Naawan.

Throughout their internship, the trainees gained hands-on experience in microplastic analysis, field and laboratory techniques, and research methodologies while working alongside the CMRI research team. The program provided them with practical exposure to laboratory protocols, scientific instrumentation, sample processing, and data interpretation, strengthening both their technical skills and appreciation for environmental research.

Guided by the dedicated researchers and staff of CMRI, the students were immersed in a collaborative research environment that fostered scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and professional growth. Their enthusiasm, commitment to learning, and active participation throughout the training reflected their readiness to contribute to future scientific endeavors.

The Office of the Extension Services and the CMRI of MSU at Naawan remain committed to providing meaningful research training opportunities that equip aspiring scientists with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to address pressing environmental challenges.

Congratulations to our OJT completers! The CMRI is honored to have been part of your learning journey and looks forward to seeing you make meaningful contributions to science and research in the future.

Microplastics may be small, but once they enter rivers, oceans, soil, and even the air, their effects can travel far beyond where they started.

These tiny plastic particles can move through ecosystems, reach coastal habitats, and become part of the food chain. Wildlife may mistake them for food, while people may be exposed through seafood, drinking water, and the air.

Microplastics can spread quietly across the environment. But awareness can spread too.

A single voice can start a conversation. A story can help a community understand the problem. A photo, article, podcast, film, or citizen science idea can bring this invisible crisis to more people.

Join MicroVoices PH and use your voice, creativity, and ideas to help inform the world about microplastic pollution. You also get the chance to win exciting prizes!

๐ƒ๐ข๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ค๐ง๐จ๐ฐ?

Plastics do not really โ€œgo away.โ€ Over time, they break down into smaller and smaller pieces called microplastics.

These tiny plastic particles can come from everyday materials such as bottles, bags, food wrappers, and synthetic clothes. They can move through water, air, and the food chain, making microplastic pollution an invisible crisis that calls for visible action.

Do you want to help raise awareness about microplastics?

Join MicroVoices PH and use your voice, creativity, and ideas to bring this issue to light. You also get the chance to win exciting prizes!

Tiny, sneaky, and somehow everywhere, microplastics have been living rent-free in our waters, food chains, and environment for far too long. So, the MicroVoices PH Organizing Committee roamed around the Research Building faรงade to bring the issue out of hiding and invite more voices into the movement.

Through MicroVoices PH, you can expose this invisible crisis using creativity, storytelling, science, and a little bit of justified environmental side-eye.
