A teacher rarely sees
the exact moment a lesson becomes a life.
Perhaps it happens years laterโ
in a laboratory,
at the edge of the sea,
inside a crowded office,
or in the quiet second before someone decides
to try once more.
You may not be there.
But something you said will be.
A question you refused to answer for us.
A page you asked us to read again.
A mistake you allowed us to make
until we understood
that learning is sometimes the courage
to be wrong
and return.
You taught beyond blackboards
and blinking screens,
beyond equations, dates, theories,
and carefully prepared slides.
You taught us how to wonder.
How to look at an ordinary thing
and ask why.
How to stand before what we do not know
without being afraid of it.
How to carry knowledge
not as something that makes us taller than others,
but as a light
we are responsible for sharing.
And perhaps
that is the quiet miracle of teaching:
you plant seeds
in places you may never visit.
Some become scientists.
Some become artists.
Some build communities,
heal wounds,
write stories,
raise families,
protect oceans,
or teach another student
to believe in a possibility.
And somewhere in all of them
is a trace of youโ
a phrase remembered,
a kindness kept,
a challenge accepted,
a door once opened.
So today,
we do not thank you only
for the lessons we can still recite.
We thank you
for the parts of ourselves
we learned to discover
because you believed
there was something worth discovering.
Long after the classroom empties,
long after the chalk dust settles,
long after our names disappear
from your class lists,
your work continuesโ
quietly,
immeasurably,
in the lives
we choose to live.
To all teachers of Mindanao State University at Naawan, we celebrate you today and every day.
