The Office of Global Engagement and Partnership (OGEP) of Mindanao State University at Naawan participated in the IE-Pro Training Program organized by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) under the project โ€œLeading Internationalization: Strengthening Institutional Capacity and Canadaโ€“Philippines Linkages.โ€ The initiative was implemented in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and supported by Global Affairs Canada through Canadaโ€™s Indo-Pacific Strategy.

Representing MSU at Naawan in the program were Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Global Engagement Rey Y. Capangpangan, OGEP Director Benjoe Rey B. Visayas, and OGEP staff member Darlene M. Reble. They were selected to join the online training conducted from February 9โ€“27, 2026, which was attended by higher education leaders and internationalization practitioners from universities across the Philippines.

The three-week online program included virtual workshops, synchronous discussions, and independent learning modules that explored key topics in the international education sector, global engagement strategies, and partnership development, particularly within the Canadian context. As part of the program requirements, participants also developed a capstone project applying the course learnings to institutional internationalization initiatives.

Following the online training, MSUN representatives participated in the Building Bridges in Higher Education: Canadaโ€“Philippines Partnership Forum held on March 2, 2026, in Intramuros, Manila. The forum provided an opportunity for Philippine higher education institutions to engage in dialogue with representatives from Canadian universities through business-to-business (B2B) meetings and networking sessions. These interactions allowed participants to explore potential areas for collaboration, including academic exchanges, research partnerships, and other initiatives aligned with MSU at Naawanโ€™s academic and research priorities.

Following the forum, Dr. Capangpangan participated in the face-to-face leadership training held from March 3โ€“6, 2026, also in Manila. The in-person program featured workshops, case studies, peer exchanges, and experiential learning sessions focusing on strategic leadership, partnership development, risk management, and the integration of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles in the internationalization of higher education.

The IE-Pro Training forms part of CBIEโ€™s professional development initiatives designed to equip higher education leaders and practitioners with strategies for meaningful and sustainable internationalization. The program aims to strengthen institutional capacity while fostering people-to-people connections between Canada and the Philippines.

This participation in training and the Canadaโ€“Philippines Partnership Forum, MSUN further strengthened its efforts to engage with the global academic community, build connections with international institutions, and explore potential collaborations in research, education, and academic exchange.
