The Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN), under the leadership of Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa, successfully organized a free iftar for its Muslim students in observance of the holy month of Ramadhan. This initiative, aimed at fostering inclusivity and strengthening the universityโ€™s commitment to cultural and religious harmony, was made possible through the support of Ms. Arleen B. Uy, MPA, from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services (OVCSAS), alongside Prof. Sylvia C. Labial, Director of Student Development, Asst. Prof. Gergie A. Ambato, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and other dedicated university staff.

We also acknowledge the presence and support of Vice Chancellor for Strategic Planning and Initiatives / Director for Monitoring and Evaluation, Frederick B. Cabactulan, M.Sc., whose participation further emphasized the universityโ€™s commitment to student welfare and community engagement.

Furthermore, we extend our gratitude to External Adviser Desheree Judena G. Preciado, MA, and Internal Adviser Ms. Hanifa Odin Limgas for their invaluable guidance in ensuring the success of this event.

This initiative reflects MSUNโ€™s dedication to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, fostering unity and compassion within the academic community.

The EDSA People Power Revolution was a historic peaceful uprising in the Philippines from February 22 to 25, 1986, that led to the ousting of then-President Ferdinand Marcos and the restoration of democracy. Sparked by widespread allegations of electoral fraud in the 1986 snap elections, millions of Filipinos, led by religious leaders, political figures, and ordinary citizens, gathered along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Metro Manila. With the support of defecting military leaders, including Fidel V. Ramos and Juan Ponce Enrile, and the leadership of Corazon Aquino, the movement successfully pressured Marcos to flee into exile. The revolution, characterized by its nonviolent nature and mass participation, became a global symbol of peaceful resistance and democratic restoration.

In high spirits of preparation, Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN), through its Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM) led by Assoc. Prof. Desheree Judena G. Preciado, launched its much-anticipated โ€œKaPEACEtahan sa MSU at Naawan: Tabo sa Umahanโ€ on November 29, 2024.

The event, themed โ€œCultivating Peace in Farming Communities Towards Sustainable Agriculture,โ€ signaled the start of MSUNโ€™s week-long celebration of its 51st Founding Anniversary and the Mindanao Week of Peace.

With its primary goal to provide local farmers with a venue to showcase their fresh, organic farm products, emphasizing sustainable agricultural practices and environmental conservation, the Tabo sa Umahan will continue until December 4, 2024, offering the community opportunities to support local farming initiatives while promoting ecological stewardship.

The opening ceremony was graced by distinguished guests, including a delegation from Timor Leste comprising Mr. Joao Francisco Maia, International Affairs Director of UN Paz; Ms. Juvita Pereira Faria, local expert and advisor for curriculum development; Ms. Marcelina da Conceicao, Peace Hub Coordinator; UN Paz, Joaninho Xavier Hei - Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, UN Paz and Vicente Borges Maia from Centro Nacional Chega. This was followed by a heartfelt address from Hon. Vice Mayor Roa, who spoke on behalf of Hon. Mayor Dennis L. Roa, reinforcing the commitment to progress and community development.

After that, the distinguished guests were also given a campus tour, allowing them to appreciate the university's charm and its commitment to fostering peace and development.

Meanwhile, students from MSUN's five colleges enthusiastically participated in "Larong Lahi," a celebration of traditional Filipino games infused with modern elements.

Organized by the Supreme Student Council, the event created a lively and festive atmosphere, blending culture and community engagement.

Despite the drizzly overcast weather, the games fostered camaraderie, teamwork, and a shared sense of joy among the participants, highlighting the lasting charm of these cultural activities and their role in strengthening the sense of community within the university.
