The EDSA People Power Revolution was a historic peaceful uprising in the Philippines from February 22 to 25, 1986, that led to the ousting of then-President Ferdinand Marcos and the restoration of democracy. Sparked by widespread allegations of electoral fraud in the 1986 snap elections, millions of Filipinos, led by religious leaders, political figures, and ordinary citizens, gathered along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Metro Manila. With the support of defecting military leaders, including Fidel V. Ramos and Juan Ponce Enrile, and the leadership of Corazon Aquino, the movement successfully pressured Marcos to flee into exile. The revolution, characterized by its nonviolent nature and mass participation, became a global symbol of peaceful resistance and democratic restoration.
The Mindanao State University at Naawan joins the nation in commemorating the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, a pivotal moment in Philippine history that showcased the power of unity and peaceful resistance.
