The Spelling Bee Contest is now starting! Kindly go to the Science Laboratory near the clinic in the 1st floor of the senior high school building. Goodluck!!
SPELLING BEE - The elimination round will be on November 13, 2023 (Monday) together with the English teachers. While the final round will be on November 14, 2023 (Tuesday).
Mechanics:
1. This contest will consist of three levels: easy (worth one point), average (worth three points), and difficult (worth five points). Ten words must be spelled correctly in each stage. In the event that there is a tie after the difficult round, the competitors will move on to the clinching round to decide who will winthe spot they will be vying for.
2. The easy round lasts for 15 seconds, the average round lasts for 30 seconds, and the final round lasts for 45 seconds. Should competitors get to the clinching round, the competitor who writes the proper spelling will receive a point and will be crowned the victor for the position they are vying for.
3. Before the "go" signal is given, the quiz master will read the word twice, along with its meaning and part of speech. The word must be spelled by contestants following the "go" signal. A competitor who begins writing before receiving the "go" signal will not be allowed to respond for that particular turn.
4. Erasures are absolutely prohibited. Erasures in answers will be automatically interpreted as incorrect answers. Furthermore, in case that the writing could not be read, it is also automatically considered incorrect.
5. The competitor with the greatest point total will be the CHAMPION.

SPEECH CHOIR
Mechanics:
1. It shall be comprised of twenty (20) to forty (40) members.
2. It must be a collaboration between Grade 11 and Grade 12 students per strand.
3. The Congo by Vachel Lindsay must be the piece.
4. The performance must range from 8 to 10 minutes.
5. Upon submission of the results to the committee, judges’ decision shall be considered final and irrevocable.
Criteria:
1. Overall Interpretation (50%) - Invokes thoughts and feelings and initiates a shared experience with the audience through superior dynamics, unique techniques, and expressive interpretations of the lines.
2. Mastery and Delivery (40%) - Demonstrates mastery of the piece by maintaining vocal unison, stage poise, eye contact, and other verbal and non-verbal effects
3. Costume and Props (10%) - Wears costumes and uses props indispensable in the interpretation of the piece and shared experience between the choir and the audience.

ORATORICAL SPEECH CONTEST
Mechanics:
1. Piece must be Desiderata by Max Ehrmann.
2. Delivery must not be more than five (5) minutes.
3. Participants are expected to be at the venue 15 minutes before the contest starts (with or without judges).
4. Special props and prompts are not permitted. Competitors who do not comply are disqualified.
5. Judges are given a copy of the piece to measure the contestant’s mastery.
6. Questions, clarifications, objections of/from the participants (and coach) are to be addressed before the contest proper otherwise anything to that effect becomes invalid.
Criteria:
1. SPEECH – 50%
- Clarity of message & projection of ideas (25%)
- Depth (5%)
- Originality (5%)
- Structure (15%) - including organization,grammar, transitions, flow, etc.
2. DELIVERY – 50%
- Presence (15%) - posture, gestures, and ability to engage the audience
- Voice (15%) - tone, diction, effectiveness, pronunciation

BOOK CHARACTER IMPERSONATION
Mechanics:
1. Each strand must have four (4) representatives, two (2) from each grade level.
2. Participants must dress up based on the chosen book character and deliver its famous and iconic lines.
3. Overall presentation must be of minimum of one (1) minute and maximum of three (3) minutes. (IF YOU EXCEED THREE MINUTES,IT WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM YOUR TOTAL SCORE.)
4. Participants are required to inform the English Club officers of the book character that will be portrayed to avoid character duplication.
Criteria:

ESSAY WRITING CONTEST
Mechanics:
1. Time to develop the composition, as well as the topic will be given at the venue of the competition.
2. No printed materials, electronic gadgets, or storage devices shall be utilized.
3. Each contestant shall be assigned a number.
4. The judges’ decision is final.
Criteria:
1. Content (50%)
- Relevance to the theme – connection, significance of the issue being discussed
- Comprehensiveness – how complete and detailed the writer’s exposition of the topic
- Originality – uniqueness, novelty and authenticity of ideas
- Insights – a fresh way of looking at things, critical view of the subject
2. Organization (30%)
- Clarity of Thoughts – use of simple and appropriate words to convey ideas or issues
- Creativity – the use of appropriate devices and expressions in the exposition of the subject
- Unity and Consistency – ability to highlight the focal point
3. Mechanics (20%)
– the correct use of punctuation, capitalization and grammar

DECLAMATION SPEECH CONTEST
Mechanics:
1. Participants shall be given a piece entitled "Juvenile Delinquent" deliverable in seven (7) minutes or less.
2. Participants shall memorize the given piece and will perform his/her entry on November 17, 2023
3. Participants shall be in an appropriate costume and use props whenever necessary.
Criteria:
1. Overall Interpretation (40%) - The student demonstrates their speech and applying an appropriate facial expressions and movement gestures that the audience and judge will understand the piece.
2. Vocal Aspects (40%) - Applied; Tone, Pitch, Volume, and a Powerful presentation of the Speech
3. Mastery (10%) - Demonstrates the mastery of the piece
4. Props/Costume (10%) - The contestants should wear their costume and props required in the development of the presented discourse.

IMPROMPTU SPEECH CONTEST
MECHANICS:
The Impromptu Speech Contest is open to all senior high school students of Tunasan National High School.
1. Performance must be at least minimum of two (2 ) minutes and maximum of four (4) minutes in duration.
There will be a deduction for every exceeding time.
2. There must be a clear introduction, body, and conclusion.
3. The time limit will be strictly implemented.
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING:
Presentation (40%):
a.) Vocal Delivery - (20%) - Pronunciation, intonation, pitch, tone, projection, articulation and pace should be considered and employed to convey the ideas, mood and argument of the speech.
b.) Manner of Speaking - (20%) - The speaker should give the appearance of relaxed self-assurance and conviction. Movement, gesture and facial expression should reinforce the vocal delivery.
Content (60%):
a.) Originality - (30%) - The judges will look for the speaker’s ability to be original.
b.) Sound reasoning organization - (30%): The speech should have a clear beginning, middle, and end. The judges will take into consideration whether the speech is introduced in an original fashion, how well the subject matter is organized, and whether it is brought to a logical conclusion.
