Honest feedback, keen listening, and a stage full of courage!
Under bright, sunny skies, the radiant energy of Metro South Alabang Toastmasters Club filled the room as we gathered at Fujifilm Alabang for Meeting #198 under the empowering theme, "Evaluation par Excellence." It was an afternoon dedicated to breaking down barriers, elevating speaking techniques, and discovering how constructive evaluations truly motivate us to become the best versions of ourselves.
Club President Kath called the meeting to order, set the energizing tone, and warmly welcomed everyone before handing over the reins to our dynamic Toastmaster of the Day, Jel Poehner, who steered the meeting seamlessly, fresh off her epic culinary triumph over Raul at the heated Arroz Caldo Armageddon! (Word on the street is that a high-stakes Bilo-Bilo Challenge is already brewing for the next round!). Our VP Education, Raul, then took the helm as the Evaluation Workshop Facilitator, breaking down actionable frameworks, the commend-recommend-commend method, and the essential ingredients that turn feedback into growth.
Impromptu speaking took center stage during Table Topics led by Marge, where Rocky thought fast on his feet to snag Best Table Topics Speaker! The evaluation segments put our workshop lessons directly into action: individual feedback flowed from Raul, Mitch, Karissa, and Albert, with Mitch achieving a remarkable double-win as both Best Individual Table Topics Evaluator and Best Speech Evaluator! In our panel evaluation featuring Heather on content, Marge on organization, and Jen on delivery, Heather stood out to earn Best Panel Evaluator.
Our prepared speakers took to the spotlight with genuine storytelling and flair. Rus opened the lineup with his engaging speech, "ODD Reasons to Procrastinate,” while Mary Joy charmed everyone with humor and vulnerability in "The Most Romantic Date…So I Thought," taking home the award for Best Prepared Speaker! Rounding out the lineup, Zan Joe tackled the speech project spotlight with "The Unwritten Rules," giving the room plenty of depth to reflect upon.
General Evaluator Kath tied everything together with high-level takeaways, supported seamlessly by Heidi on the timer to keep the program running without a hitch.
A warm thank you to our special guest, Public Relations Manager, Karen Yeung, who joined us and added valuable insights to the session!
