AES' Nutri-Race
In this current generation where children are more inclined to use gadgets and watch television rather than playing outside or do household chores, it is important to recognize the decreasing physical activities of our youths and how this negatively impacts their health as evidenced by the increasing number of overweight and obese learners.
Regular physical activity is important in promoting wellness not only for our students but for their families as well. In this regard, AES has organized a set of engaging sensory activities for our learners to physically and mentally challenge them as they win their way to the finish line.
The Nutri-Race was participated by learners from grades 4, 5 and 6 last July 25, 2019 inside the school grounds. Each team is composed of five members who has gone through four stations that required physical agility, teamwork and knowledge.
Champion: Grade 5
1st runner-up: Grade 4
2nd runner-up: Grade 6

Luto ng G**o ko, Paborito Ko!
This healthy cook off among the teaching staff was held last July 12, 2019 during the celebration of the Nutrition Month. The goal of our teachers was to prepare a healthy and appetizing meal for learners which focuses on the main ingredient, Okra.
Okra is a vegetable which is often neglected by children due to its unique texture. It is a good source of minerals, vitamins and fiber. Okra is also a source of antioxidants; its seeds contain oligomeric catechins and flavonoid derivatives, both of which have been linked to a lower risk of cancer.
The dishes served were judged by the school nurse, Mr. James Joseph Ulep, based on its Pingang Pinoy value while learner-representatives from different grade levels offered their ratings (1-10) based on how much they liked the food.

It is important to keep in mind that nutrition is more than just the right vitamins and minerals. It is about getting enough of all the right foods plus minimizing the processed foods that we over-consume.
Mr. James Joseph Ulep, AES' school nurse, conducted a Health Fora for Teachers and talked about the typical filipino diet and how key nutrients can affect their health.
They also discussed matters pertaining to learners' health; school-aged children are more at risk of having soil-transmitted helminthiasis and contracting viral infections such as measles. In order to prevent this, we should always remind our learners the importance of proper hygiene and by participating in school health programs like the Bi-Annual Deworming and Measles Immunization Program.
