WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SpEd & SNED?
Many parents ask us about these two words. They sound almost the same, but they have slightly different meanings! Letโs make it very simple:
๐น SpEd (Special Education)
What it means: This is the action and the methods of teaching.
Details: It refers to the special classes, specialized classrooms, and specific teaching tools used to help children who learn differently. It is the traditional term for the actual service provided to the student.
๐น SNED (Special Needs Education)
What it means: This is the modern idea and approach.
Details: This term focuses on the child first, not their disability. It is a broader, global word used to make sure that any child with a unique needโwhether physical, mental, or emotionalโgets the right support to learn alongside everyone else.
