Commemorating the Feast of the Sacrifice, or Eid al-Adha, on June 17th, honoring the profound faith and devotion of Prophet Ibrahim as most businesses and schools are closed as it holds a prominent place in the public calendar.

Republic Act Number 9849 marked it as a public holiday, which went into effect in 2002. This momentous occasion is observed on the tenth day of Dhul Hijjah in the Islamic calendar. The date of Eid al-Adha fluctuates every year because the Islamic calendar is lunar in origin. The applicable Gregorian date must be communicated to the Office of the President by the National Commission of Filipino Muslims (NCMF).

Brief fact, the Independence Day of the Philippines was officially observed on July 4th until Republic Act No. 4166 was enacted on August 4, 1964, which changed the holiday to June 12th.
