The Agro-Biological Research Laboratory (ABRL) of Central Luzon State University (CLSU) recently hosted groups of on-the-job trainees from different universities, providing them with hands-on training and practical experience in microbiology, molecular biology, plant science, and computational biology.

From May to July 2026, four students from CLSU, two from Benguet State University (BSU), three from Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), and two from Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) underwent their respective on-the-job training programs at ABRL. The training brought together students from different academic backgrounds, with each group completing their required hours while gaining practical experience aligned with their respective fields.

Most of the trainees were exposed to and trained in microbiological and molecular biology techniques, as well as screenhouse plant model observation and management, allowing them to gain practical laboratory and research experience beyond classroom instruction. In the field of computational research, three students were focused on protein structure modeling, database development using RStudio, and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) creation, strengthening their skills in computational and data-driven research.

As part of the culmination of their training, the students presented their respective outputs and accomplishments to personnel from the Crops and Resources Research and Development (CRRDC), ABRL staff, and their immediate supervisors. The supervisors provided feedback, recommendations, and practical advice to help the trainees further develop their skills and prepare for future academic and professional endeavors.

Through these training opportunities, ABRL continues to provide students with meaningful exposure to actual research environments while strengthening collaboration among CLSU and other academic institutions. The program contributes to developing future professionals equipped with practical skills, research experience, and a deeper appreciation of scientific work.

Again, ABRL congratulates all the trainees on the successful completion of their on-the-job training. Their dedication, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn contributed to a meaningful training experience while directly supporting the research conducted at ABRL. We wish them all the best in their future academic and professional endeavors!

Product specialists Ms. Neliza Jean Simbajon, and Mr. Arnold Jalandoni from Omnibus Bio-Medical Systems, Inc. visited the Agro-Biological Research Laboratory (ABRL) on July 21, 2026, to calibrate the BX43 microscope, and a stereo microscope. This was followed by a brief technical orientation, and hands-on demonstration on the proper operation, care, and preventive maintenance of the instruments, providing laboratory personnel with practical guidance to support accurate and reliable laboratory operations.

The activity emphasized the importance of a well-maintained, and properly calibrated equipment in producing dependable results. Through the hands-on orientation, ABRL researchers gained a better understanding of the correct operation, routine care of the microscopes, including the practices that can help prevent instrument-related errors, and prolong equipment service life. These skills can be directly applied in routine laboratory activities which requires precise microscopic examination. Ultimately, this activity strengthened the laboratory personnel's technical competencies and reinforced the importance of accurate, and responsible equipment management in supporting quality research.

The vibrant colors of pigmented rice come from naturally occurring compounds such as anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, and phenolics. These bioactive compounds possess antioxidant properties that help protect cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals.

Beyond its unique appearance, pigmented rice is valued for its nutritional quality and potential health-promoting benefits. Its rich composition of natural antioxidants makes it an important component of a diverse and balanced diet.
