In a tribute dedicated to our graduating Crop Science majors, we were honored to welcome back one of our distinguished alumni, Dr. Royette C. Santos, as our guest speaker.

​Dr. Santos graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Crop Science and served as President of the Society of Crop Science Majors. He placed 6th in the Agriculturists Licensure Examination and completed his straight PhD in Agronomy at the University of the Philippines Los Baños funded by the Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP). He currently serves as an Associate Scientist in Agronomy at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).

​Drawing from his journey, he shared the following essential career and life insights for the graduating crop science majors:

1. It is very important to highlight your eagerness and openness to learn, work, and collaborate.

​2. Look for a workplace that values collaboration, growth, and respect. Your first job will shape not just your career but also your mindset and confidence.

3. Try to build your expertise in your field of specialization and expand your horizon. Embrace change and step out of your comfort zone. We are often afraid to go beyond our horizon because we are unfamiliar with it, not because we are incapable.
​
4. Once you encounter disappointments, try to move forward and use them as opportunities to explore greener pastures and new opportunities.
​
​5. Knowledge is more meaningful when shared. Be the kind of person who opens doors of opportunity for others who come after you.

6. Lastly, do not forget the people behind your success.

​Congratulations to our graduating Crop Science majors! May these words guide you as you step into the professional world. 🎓
