The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) โ Villanueva took center stage in advancing faculty development through the ๐๐๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ง ๐๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ค๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ซ๐จ๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ซ๐๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ -๐๐จ๐ซ๐ค๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฉ, facilitated by the ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ง๐ง๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ (CITL), held last ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐โ๐, ๐๐๐๐, at ๐๐๐ค๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐-๐๐๐.
The two-day training workshop was spearheaded by ๐๐ง๐ ๐ซ. ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ก๐จ๐ง ๐. ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐, ๐๐ข๐ซ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐ซ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ง ๐๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ค๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐๐ฆ ๐๐๐๐. The program featured a series of interactive and collaborative activities designed to foster engagement, encourage learning, and provide faculty members with opportunities to explore innovative approaches to teaching and continuous improvement.
The training focused on the key stages of the Design Thinking processโ Senses, Empathy, Ideate, and Prototypeโwhich served as foundational principles in understanding learnersโ needs and developing creative, learner-centered instructional solutions. Through dynamic activities and hands-on experiences, the workshop inspired faculty participants to actively engage, collaborate, and enjoy the process of problem-solving while applying Design Thinking principles in educational contexts.

The activity highlighted the importance of Innovative Teaching Strategies and Outcomes-Based Education in preparing future engineers to meet industry demands and global standards. Engr. Bajuyo structured the activity into four (4) sessions. During Session 1, participants identified gaps and challenges in engineering education, particularly in student learning outcomes, assessment practices, curriculum implementation, and instructional delivery.
Session 2 focused on Innovative and Learner-Centered Teaching Strategies in engineering education, where faculty members engaged in collaborative workshop activities designed to improve classroom engagement, critical thinking, and practical application of concepts and followed by Session 3, which focused on drafting CQI frameworks and closing-the-loop processes using assessment results, feedback, and data-driven interventions aligned with institutional and accreditation standards. The activity concluded with Session 4: Presentation of Outputs, during which participants presented their proposed strategies, frameworks, and recommendations to improve engineering education at USTP.
The CITL would like to acknowledge the initiative of Engr. John Rey B. Bajuyo, who also served as the Resource Speaker during the Training-Workshop.
