The Mathematics Program of UP Cebu welcomed its new MS Mathematics students during its 2026 Graduate Orientation held on August 15, 2026, at CSB 201, College of Science Building, UP Cebu.

The event was officially opened by Dr. Cherrylyn Alota, who warmly welcomed the new students to the program and encouraged them as they begin their graduate studies.

Dr. Natividad Estillore presented the policies and guidelines of the UP Cebu MS Mathematics Program, providing the students with an overview of the academic expectations and requirements of the program. Meanwhile, Dr. Daisy Romeo introduced the different research groups highlighting the diverse research opportunities available to MS Mathematics students. These research areas include Logical Algebras, Hyperstructure Theory, Mathematical Modeling, Coding Theory, Graph Theory, and Analysis.

The orientation provided an opportunity for the new students to become familiar with the program, its academic policies, research opportunities, and the mathematical community they are now part of.

The UP Cebu Mathematics Program invites applications from qualified individuals for possible lecturer positions.

Interested applicants are requested to submit an application letter, comprehensive curriculum vitae, and copies of academic credentials and other supporting documents on or before 20 July 2026.

The University of the Philippines Cebu, in coordination with the College of Science, UP Diliman, is considering offering the PhD Mathematics program beginning in the second semester of Academic Year 2026–2027 (commencing in January 2027).

The program will be hosted at UP Cebu, with the instructional modality to be determined. The degree and diploma will be conferred by UP Diliman, allowing students to earn this prestigious qualification without the need to relocate to Manila.

🎉 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝗪𝗿𝗮𝗽! 𝗖𝗼𝗠𝗙𝗼𝗦-𝗡𝗔𝗦𝗖 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀! 🎉

We are delighted to announce that the 𝗖𝗼𝗠𝗙𝗼𝗦-𝗡𝗔𝗦𝗖 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 (International Conference on Continuum Mechanics Focusing on Singularities, Numerical Analysis, and Scientific Computing) has officially concluded! From June 20–23, 2026, we brought together brilliant minds from around the globe to the beautiful shores of 𝗟𝗮𝗽𝘂-𝗟𝗮𝗽𝘂 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗖𝗲𝗯𝘂, 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 for four days of inspiring mathematics, collaboration, and cultural exchange. 🇵🇭🌏

This year's conference was particularly special as it marked the first time the CoMFoS meeting was held outside Japan, a testament to the growing international collaboration between Kanazawa University and the University of the Philippines (UP). The event was co-organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Kanazawa University; the NASC Academic Group of UP Diliman Institute of Mathematics; UP Cebu Mathematics Program; and the Mathematical Society of the Philippines through its Region 7 Chapter.

𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼:
- Our distinguished invited speakers from Japan, the Philippines, Switzerland, and Taiwan for sharing their groundbreaking research.
- All the participants, including contributed oral and poster presenters, who made the sessions dynamic and engaging.
- The local organizing committee and volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
- Our sponsors and partners, including UP Office of International Linkages and the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM), for their generosity that allowed us to support more local participants.

From cutting-edge discussions on PDEs, shape optimization, and deep learning, to the vibrant networking sessions and wonderful welcome dinner, the conference was a resounding success. We hope everyone left with new ideas, new connections, and fond memories of Cebu!

The University of the Philippines Cebu hosts the World Expert Lecture Series (WELS) on “Recent Developments in Structure-Preserving and Adaptive Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations” on June 23, 2026, at 8:00 AM at Lawak Sinehan.

Two distinguished researchers from Kanazawa University will share recent advances in computational mathematics, numerical analysis, and scientific computing, with a focus on structure-preserving and adaptive numerical methods for solving complex partial differential equations.

In collaboration with the UP Office of International Linkages and the UP Cebu Mathematics Program, the lecture series strengthens international academic engagement and provides a venue for students, faculty members, researchers, and staff to engage with globally recognized experts in applied and computational mathematics.

📸 Day 1 Highlights | CoMFoS-NASC International Conference 2026

CoMFoS–NASC 2026 is the result of the active collaboration between Kanazawa University and the University of the Philippines in recent years. This year, the conference is co-organized by the Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing (NASC) Academic Group of the University of the Philippines Diliman, the Mathematics Program of the University of the Philippines Cebu, and the Region 7 Chapter of the Mathematical Society of the Philippines.

The University of the Philippines Cebu serves as the local host of the CoMFoS-NASC International Conference 2026 (Continuum Mechanics Focusing on Singularities, Numerical Analysis, and Scientific Computing), held in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines.

The conference officially commenced yesterday, June 20, 2026, bringing together researchers, faculty members, and students from local and international institutions. Day 1 featured insightful talks, engaging discussions, a poster session, and meaningful exchanges of ideas that fostered collaboration and highlighted recent advances in continuum mechanics, numerical analysis, and scientific computing.
