The Department of Chemistry's AVAMOS Research Group proudly welcomed five high school students from the Philippine Science High School โ€“ Western Visayas Campus (PSHS-WVC) for the Science Immersion Program (SIP) 2026, held from June 8โ€“19, 2026.

During their 80-hour internship, the students gained valuable hands-on research experience through laboratory work focused on the extraction of chitin from crustacean shells using different solvents. They also explored advanced analytical techniques using the Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (FAAS) at the Department of Chemistry and the Scanning Electron Microscope with Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) at the Regional Research Center โ€“ Materials Science and Nanotechnology Laboratory (MSNL).

The immersion culminated in a research presentation, where the students shared the knowledge, skills, and insights they acquired throughout the program.

The AVAMOS Research Group is honored to support the Philippine Science High School's mission of nurturing future leaders in science and technology by providing meaningful research experiences, professional mentorship, and exposure to real-world scientific practice.

We congratulate our PSHS-WVC interns on successfully completing the program and wish them continued success in their future scientific endeavors!

Team AVAMOS Musorb Innovators participated in the ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐ญ๐ก ๐“๐„๐‚๐‡ ๐๐‹๐€๐๐“๐„๐‘ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ฌ ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฆ๐จ ๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ, held on May 30, 2026, at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila.

The Demo Day served as the culminating event of the TECH PLANTER in the Philippines program, bringing together industry partners, mentors, and researchers committed to nurturing the next generation of Filipino science-driven innovators. During the event, selected finalist teams showcased deep-tech solutions addressing challenges in Circular Economy & Sustainability, Future of Food & Agriculture, and Clean Energy & Power Innovation.

Among the nine finalist teams, AVAMOS Musorb competed under the Circular Economy & Sustainability theme. Representing the team, Jaden Joguilon delivered a 7-minute pitch highlighting Musorb, an innovative bio-based technology developed to promote sustainable aquaculture.

The AVAMOS Musorb Innovators team is composed of Jaden Joguilon, Arundel Formacion, and Jeedwn Vertosio, all BS Chemistry alumni. The team is mentored by Dr. Concepcion Ponce, PhD and Ms. Christine Faith Germinal, CIP, whose guidance has been instrumental in advancing the project from research to innovation.

In recognition of its innovative technology and presentation, AVAMOS Musorb received three special awards during the competition: the ๐“๐„๐‘๐€๐‹ ๐€๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐, which includes a โ‚ฑ30,000 cash prize; the ๐…๐ฅ๐จ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ & ๐Ž๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐ง ๐€๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐, providing free legal support services; and the ๐–๐š๐๐ก๐ฐ๐š๐ง๐ข ๐…๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐€๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐, which grants free access to the Wadhwani Platform for Technopreneurship Training.

Dr. Concepcion Ponce, PhD, of the AVAMOS Innovations Research Group represented the team at the Canadian Societies for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering 2026 Conferences and Exhibition (x2026), held on May 24โ€“26, 2026, in Toronto, Canada. As one of the premier gatherings for professionals in chemistry, chemical technology, and chemical engineering, the conference brought together researchers, academics, industry leaders, and innovators from around the world to exchange ideas and advance scientific progress.
