The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Teaching and Learning Resource Center (TLRC) welcomed 260 incoming first year students to the annual Bridge Program in English and Mathematics from July 27, 2026 to August 7, 2026.
The Bridge Program is a collaborative effort between the TLRC and the College of Arts and Sciences, specifically drawing expertise from the Division of Humanities and the Division of Physical Sciences and Mathematics. This yearโs program was facilitated by a dedicated team of Bridge Faculty Tutors. The English track was led by Dr. Elaine Monserate, Ms. Inaj Mae Abalajon, and Ms. Maria Anjelica Wong, while the Mathematics track was handled by Asst. Prof. Jeoffrey Libo-on, Mr. Leonel Fedric Tuburan, Mr. Arjunraj Masmela, and Mr. Jacob Maximus Usaraga.
The program commenced with the BP GO (Bridge Program General Orientation) and diagnostic examinations on July 27, 2026.
Representatives from the English and Math faculty, Dr. Monserate and Mr. Tuburan, shared inspirational messages with the students. Following these activities, students engaged in two weeks of daily lectures, interactive classroom exercises, and experiences of university life on the Miagao campus. On August 7, 2026, the students took their final examination, marking the end of the bridging classes.
In keeping with the program's tradition of fostering community, the activities concluded with BP Cยณ (Bridge Program Culminating and Closing Ceremony), featuring "Quiz Beh!," a heart-pumping, mind-challenging quiz bee competition in English and Mathematics. Facilitated by the faculty tutors, this event served as both an assessment tool and an entertaining venue for participants to apply their learnings. Following the quiz, representatives from the Math and English participants, Ms. Eula Grace Bignayan and Mr. Mavi Gem Andrada, respectively, shared their testimonies.
Established in 1997, the Bridge Program remains one of TLRCโs most enduring public service initiatives. By proactively addressing academic gaps and reducing freshman anxiety, the TLRC aims to guide and prepare the future resilient Iskolar ng Bayan, Para sa Bayan.
