BAGUIO CITY - The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) School of Technology (SOTECH) marked two significant milestones in chemical engineering education and professional development during the 𝟖𝟕𝒕𝒉 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒕𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒉𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑬𝒏𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒓𝒔 (𝑷𝑰𝑪𝒉𝑬) 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, held at the Hotel Supreme Mall & Events Center, Baguio City, from September 16 to 18, 2026.

Among the highlights of the convention was the conferment of 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘀 𝗖. 𝗢𝗻𝗴 as a 𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙧-𝙇𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙧 under the 𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗵𝗘 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆, following evaluation by the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Internationalization..

The conferment recognizes Assoc. Prof. Ong’s professional experience and expertise in chemical engineering and forms part of the continuing efforts to strengthen the professional competencies of Filipino chemical engineers in accordance with international standards.

Adding to the milestone was the 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 (𝙋𝙍𝘾) 𝘾𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 awarded to the University of the Philippines Visayas for 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑅𝑒𝑝𝑢𝑏𝑙𝑖𝑐 𝐴𝑐𝑡 𝑁𝑜. 9297, 𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐶ℎ𝑒𝑚𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝐸𝑛𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐿𝑎𝑤 𝑜𝑓 2004.

The recognition holds particular significance as UPV was 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝟯𝟯 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 offering the Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering program nationwide to receive the Certificate of Recognition for compliance with the prescribed requirements.

The distinction underscores UPV SOTECH’s commitment to maintaining the standards prescribed for chemical engineering education and professional practice in the Philippines. It also reflects the School’s continuing efforts to ensure compliance with national regulatory requirements while advancing the quality and relevance of its chemical engineering program.

Together, the two recognitions highlight SOTECH’s commitment to professional excellence, regulatory compliance, and internationalization in chemical engineering, from strengthening the professional competencies of its faculty to upholding the standards governing chemical engineering education.

The SOTECH Laboratory Committee announces the 𝑺𝑶𝑻𝑬𝑪𝑯 𝑳𝑨𝑩𝑶𝑹𝑨𝑻𝑶𝑹𝒀 𝑶𝑹𝑰𝑬𝑵𝑻𝑨𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵 for all students with laboratory classes and thesis requirements for First Semester Academic Year 2026-2027.

This semester, the orientation will be conducted via 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙜𝙡𝙚 𝘾𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢 and will run from

The University of the Philippines Visayas School of Technology (UPV SOTECH) has once again demonstrated its excellence in food technology education, 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗽-𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 in the 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐋𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, administered last August 12-13, 2026.

UPV SOTECH achieved an outstanding 𝟵𝟲.𝟵𝟳% 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲, with 𝟥𝟤 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝟥𝟥 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘴 successfully obtaining their professional licenses, significantly higher than the 𝟲𝟲.𝟯𝟮% 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲. This remarkable performance further highlights the school's commitment to providing quality education and producing competent and highly skilled food technologists.

Adding to this achievement, two UPV SOTECH graduates emerged among the country's topnotchers. 𝐌𝐬. 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥 𝐒. 𝐙𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐥, 𝐏𝐅𝐓 ranked 𝟱𝘁𝗵, while 𝐌𝐫. 𝐉𝐚𝐲 𝐕𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐢 𝐓. 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐬, 𝐏𝐅𝐓 ranked 𝟳𝘁𝗵 in the licensure examination.

The University of the Philippines Visayas School of Technology proudly celebrates another milestone in research and innovation as 𝐃𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐏. 𝐁𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚 has been granted a 𝑳𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑷𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕 by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) for his invention entitled:

"𝘼𝙣 𝙊𝙞𝙡-𝘽𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙡 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙄𝙣𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙒𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖 𝙉𝙤𝙣-𝙄𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙤𝙛."

The patented invention presents an innovative, non-incineration approach to the treatment of infectious wastes, contributing to safer and more sustainable waste management technologies. The patent, jointly held by the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘆𝗮𝘀 and the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗟𝗼𝘀 𝗕𝗮ñ𝗼𝘀, underscores the University's commitment to developing impactful technologies that address real-world challenges.
