“Before shifting to the UPV BA (Psychology) program during my second year, I felt as though I had more questions than direction. The path I initially chose no longer felt like my own, leaving me adrift. When it came time to decide where to go, a suggestion to consider BA (Psychology) was made. I agreed—not out of a burning passion, but in the quiet hope that the journey might help me untangle my own thoughts and uncertainties.

However, the program offered far more than a simple sense of direction. It gradually widened my perspective, allowing me to view the world with newfound clarity and shaping how I navigate my path long after graduation. Even though my current career is not strictly within the field of Psychology, the knowledge and skills instilled in me remain. They guide my professional journey with a deep sense of awareness and curiosity.

More than helping me understand myself, the program transformed how I perceive others. Through the lens of theory, research, and shared experiences, I learned to see people as individuals shaped by diverse contexts and complex narratives. It taught me the value of being less judgmental and more mindful of where others are coming from. While I remain a work in progress, the training I received continues to ground me in my pursuit of personal growth.

I carry many memories from my time at UPV, but what I treasure most are the relationships I built. I will always remember the late-night study sessions, the grueling work behind every research project, the focus group discussions with K-pop fans, and the shared anxiety of our individual theses—followed by the immense joy of making it through together.

Looking back, what began as a decision born of uncertainty became one of the most defining and transformative chapters of my life—one I will always be deeply grateful for.”

“It was in our Experimental Psych class under Sir Darius Salaum where each pair was asked not only to present our assignment but also to write a reaction paper on all of the other presentations. I thought to myself - that was taxing!

“With all the assignments piling up from the other subjects, extra-curricular activities, I broke down in the middle of the class. I stopped what I was doing, walked out, and went straight to the restroom to cry. Back in the classroom, Sir Darius asked my classmates, “What happened to Mary Anne?”

“What I thought was “over work” back then was just preparing me to balance life and work – the future me would be thankful for.

“There was also a time when I walked into a classroom full of freshmen waiting for the teacher to arrive. With a little push from my friends, I went to the front and asked for their class cards – to which they complied. I could pass as an instructor, I said. Well, that bold move gave me a thrill!

“I also remember when Sir Jose Go was reviewing our thesis drafts. He advised us to keep our sentences simple – It lessens errors and makes our work easier to understand. In my opinion, the best way to get the message across. It reminded us that the work that we do is not just for ourselves, but for the people who will benefit from it.

“UPV Psychology was also where I found many of my friends. We were classmates, dormmates, and even roommates after college.

“I thank the BA (Psychology) program and UPV, for teaching us life lessons early on, creating a venue for us to test ourselves, encouraging us to serve others, and helping us build bonds that go beyond the University.”
