DepEd Merida's official statement in response to the issue circulating today with regards to the athletes transportation concerning Merida delegation in the 2026 Area Meet at Albuera, Leyte:
For everyone’s information and clarification, this is regarding the concern raised about the support given to our athletes and coaches.
We appreciate the concern for the welfare of our athletes and coaches. However, before making conclusions, it is important that we also know the facts and the support that is already being provided.
the expenses for meals and snacks, transportation allowance, and uniforms are provided through the LGU, with the approval of our Municipal Mayor. Our teachers and coaches are not required to contribute to these expenses.
There are also two mass transport vehicles provided for the kitchen equipment and personnel—one for Elementary and one for Secondary. In addition, there is a standby transport vehicle and the DRRM van that can be utilized to transport athletes and coaches to their playing venues in Albuera. LGU vehicles have also been made available every year to assist our athletes during competitions.
The transportation allowance given to the athletes and coaches was also based on their suggestion, as a way of helping them with their transportation needs.
Perhaps, before posting concerns publicly, it would be better to first ask the proper authorities and know what support has actually been provided. This is not to invalidate anyone’s concern, but simply to make sure that the information being shared is complete and accurate.
We all want the same thing—the safety, welfare, and success of our athletes and coaches.
We should continue advocating for better support when necessary, but we should also acknowledge and appreciate the support that is already being extended by our LGU.
Our athletes deserve support. Our coaches deserve support. And our community deserves the truth and the complete picture.
