HLI ORIENTATION: Strengthening Our Journey Toward a Healthier School

Today, Badas National High School took another meaningful step in its journey toward becoming a Healthy Learning Institution (HLI) through an orientation on the HLI framework, documentation, and validation process.

Healthy Learning Institutions (HLI) is an approach that promotes a school environment where the health, well-being, safety, and overall development of learners and the school community are supported through coordinated programs, healthy practices, and a whole-school approach.

We sincerely thank our resource speakers from the Schools Division Office of the City of Mati for making time to share their knowledge, expertise, and valuable experiences with the BNHS HLI team.

Sir Peter Jourdan G. Reyes, RN, Division Nurse of the Schools Division Office of the City of Mati, discussed what HLI is, its purpose, and its six pillars, giving the team a clearer understanding of the framework and how it can help strengthen our school’s health and well-being initiatives.

Meanwhile, Sir Karlo Mark D. Malba, RN, School Nurse of Mati School of Arts and Trades (MSAT), shared practical experiences and insights on documentation, organizing and packaging MOVs, and the validation process, providing valuable guidance as we prepare our HLI portfolio.

As the Clinic In-Charge, Lea Mae M. Dacillo, RN, was tasked to present the HLI Documentation Management Structure, assignment of pillars and indicators, documentation workflow, and the organization of the HLI portfolio in Google Drive. These systems aim to help our team work collaboratively and ensure that our documentation is systematic, organized, accessible, and ready for validation.

Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to our HLI Head and School Principal, Dr. Alvielou M. Villanueva, for the continued support and encouragement throughout this undertaking.

To our speakers and the entire BNHS HLI team, thank you for sharing your time, expertise, and commitment. May this orientation serve as a strong foundation as we work together toward a healthier and more supportive learning environment.

Adolescence is a time of many changes—new experiences, challenges, friendships, expectations, and emotions. Sometimes, these can become overwhelming.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around 1 in 7 adolescents aged 10–19 experiences a mental health condition. WHO also emphasizes that supportive environments at home, in school, and in the community are important in protecting and promoting adolescent mental well-being. (World Health Organization)

On August 28, 2026, DASIG BNHS Teen Center Peer Facilitators conducted classroom-to-classroom Menstrual Health Sessions for Grades 7–12, with Miss Lea Mae M. Dacillo, Teen Center Coordinator/ARH Focal Person, supervising the implementation and providing guidance to promote accurate knowledge, proper menstrual hygiene, and healthy self-care.

Classroom-to-Classroom Menstrual Health Session | August 28, 2026

As part of the DASIG BNHS Teen Center’s Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) advocacy, our dedicated Peer Facilitators conducted classroom-to-classroom menstrual health sessions, with topics tailored to the learners’ grade levels.

Grade 7–8: What is menstruation, proper menstrual hygiene, and common facts and myths about menstruation.

Grade 9–12: The menstrual cycle, Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), and practical ways to manage period discomfort.

The activity aims to raise awareness, correct myths and misconceptions, promote proper menstrual hygiene and self-care, and create a safe and stigma-free environment where learners can confidently talk about their reproductive health.

The activity was supervised by Miss Lea Mae M. Dacillo, DASIG BNHS Teen Center Coordinator/ARH Focal Person, who visited each classroom to monitor the implementation, provide guidance to the Peer Facilitators, and address learners’ questions and concerns during the sessions.

Through peer-led education and active supervision, the DASIG BNHS Teen Center continues to empower learners with accurate information, encourage healthy practices, and foster a supportive school environment where every learner can understand and care for their health with confidence.
