BGREES Kicks Off ASEAN Month with a Vibrant Cultural Celebration

The Benito Garcia Rabat Executive Elementary School (BGREES) was filled with the colors and cultures of Southeast Asia yesterday, August 11, 2025, as the school officially opened its celebration of ASEAN Month. The event, spearheaded by the Araling Panlipunan Coordinator, Teacher Cristina M. Bermudez, brought the ten-member nations of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to life for the learners.

The celebration began with an engaging flag identification game, which tested the students' knowledge of the flags of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The lively game served as a fun and educational way to familiarize the young learners with the countries that make up their regional community.

The highlight of the day was a vibrant parade of ASEAN national costumes. Students and teachers showcased the rich diversity of the region, proudly wearing the traditional attire of each country. From the Filipino baro't saya to the Malaysian baju kurung and the Thai chakkri, the school transformed into a colorful spectacle of culture and heritage.

Teacher Bermudez shared the purpose behind the festive activities. "Our goal is to deepen our students' understanding of the ASEAN community," she explained. "By seeing the flags, hearing the music, and wearing the costumes, they are not just memorizing facts, they are forming a connection and appreciation for our neighbors in Southeast Asia."

The successful opening day set a joyful and educational tone for the rest of the month. The students of BGREES left with a better sense of their place in the larger regional community, proving that learning about the world can be both fun and unforgettable. 🌎🗺️🇵🇭

MALIGAYANG PAGDIRIWANG SA BUWAN NG WIKA! ❤️🇵🇭
