Triumph of Inclusion: ALS Literacy Day Showcases Learner Excellence Across Mati Districts

The spirit of inclusive education shone brightly during the recently concluded Division Inclusive Education Day, also known as ALS Literacy Day held at Mati School of Arts and Trade Covered Court, where learners from both elementary and junior high school levels came together to celebrate learning, showcase their talents, and prove that education knows no boundaries.

Held with vibrant enthusiasm and a shared commitment to educational equity, the event brought together Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners from across Mati’s districts to compete in a series of academic and literary challenges. The day was not only a celebration of knowledge but also a testament to the transformative power of inclusive education.

The competition featured a diverse array of events designed to highlight the learners’ intellectual prowess and creative expression. From the fast-paced Quiz Bee to the eloquence of Essay Writing and the linguistic agility of the Spelling Bee, each contest was a showcase of determination and skill.

The Mati Central District dominated the elementary level, sweeping multiple categories with poise and precision. Meanwhile, Mati South District proved its mettle in the junior high school division, clinching victories across nearly all events.

The excitement doesn’t end here. These winning teams will proudly represent the Division of Mati at the upcoming Regional Inclusive Education Day, scheduled for October 15–17 in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte. With their recent victories fueling their confidence, the learners are poised to bring honor not only to their districts but to the entire ALS community.

Division ALS Focal Person and event organizers lauded the learners’ performances, emphasizing that the event was more than just a competition—it was a celebration of resilience, inclusion, and the boundless potential of every learner.

“This day reminds us that learning is for everyone,” one educator shared. “Our ALS learners continue to inspire us with their grit, creativity, and passion for education.”

ALS Mati Honors 120 Learners at Its 23rd Graduation and 7th Moving-Up Ceremony

The Schools Division of the City of Mati proudly marked a significant occasion as 120 ALS learners—16 elementary graduates and 104 junior high school completers—received their certificates of completion during the 23rd Graduation and 7th Moving-Up Ceremony held this July 16, 2025.

The ceremony was filled with a vibrant atmosphere of pride and achievement, featuring Dr. Winnie E. Batoon, CESO V, Schools Division Superintendent, whose presence highlighted the importance of inclusive education in fostering empowered futures. Mr. Delfin Miones represented City Mayor Hon. Joel Mayo Almario, expressing steadfast support for ALS and affirming the local government's commitment to providing accessible alternative learning pathway.

Each graduate's journey reflects resilience, perseverance, and hope. The awarding of certificates signified a crucial step forward for these learners—evidence that with determination and community backing, educational success is attainable.

The Alternative Learning System (ALS) community recently experienced a moment of profound inspiration and renewed purpose when Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Winnie E. Batoon, CESO V, joined us for the Learning Enhancement Intervention, bringing his mathematical expertise along with him.

With heartfelt delight and sincere gratitude, ALS learners, facilitators, and coordinators embraced SDS Batoon—not only as a leader but also as a dedicated mentor who generously shared his time and insights in mathematics. His presence transformed what could have been an ordinary day into an extraordinary occasion for learning and motivation.

The closing program of the Division Multiplier Training for the Alternative Learning System (ALS), focusing on the implementation of Work-Based Learning and the "Be Your Own Boss" initiative, was a momentous occasion filled with inspiration and motivation. The event celebrated the commitment and collaboration of educators, stakeholders, and the ALS community in their shared goal of empowering learners to achieve self-sufficiency and success.

The program began with a warm welcome to all attendees, including the distinguished guests. A highlight of the event was the virtual presence of the Regional ALS Focal Person, Dr. Maricel S. Langahid who delivered a heartfelt message of support and encouragement. In her speech, she emphasized the transformative impact of ALS initiatives like Work-Based Learning and the "Be Your Own Boss" program on the lives of learners. She commended the efforts of the division and its educators for their dedication to equipping learners with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the modern world.

Another esteemed guest was the CID Chief,Dr. Maria Gina F. Flores whose physical presence added a sense of gravitas to the occasion. She expressed her gratitude to the training participants for their active involvement and underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in implementing innovative ALS programs. The third and final day of the division multiplier training for Alternative Learning System (ALS) implementers reached its apex in a dynamic and inspiring demonstration teaching session, where 18 dedicated teachers showcased their skills and innovation. This culminating event became the embodiment of the training's goals, uniting educators, learners, and esteemed observers in a powerful celebration of teaching excellence.

The training venue transformed into a vibrant learning space, buzzing with anticipation as the 18 demo teachers took turns presenting their lessons. Each demonstration was an impressive blend of creativity and practicality, showcasing how the principles of work-based learning and the "Be Your Own Boss" initiative could be effectively integrated into ALS teaching strategies. From teaching entrepreneurial skills to simulating real-world work scenarios, the demo teachers brought their lessons to life in ways that captivated their audience.

The presence of distinguished observers added both gravity and excitement to the proceedings. The Public Schools District Supervisors (PSDS) from Mati South District Sir Noel Perez and Ma'am Liezel Padua and PSDS Dr. Mary Jean M.Francisquete from Mati Central District carefully observed each demo, offering insightful feedback grounded in their deep understanding of educational standards and local context. Meanwhile, the Principal of Sanghay National High School, Sir Miguel H. Panugan Jr., brought a leadership perspective, looking for ways these innovative approaches could be scaled to benefit broader learning communities.

Master Teacher from Mati School of Arts and Trades Sir Orlan Lupogan, a respected figure known for their mastery of pedagogy, attentively analyzed each demonstration, focusing on teaching strategies and learner engagement. Their role as an observer was pivotal, as they provided constructive insights aimed at refining and enhancing the implementers' approaches. Lastly, the esteemed Education Program Supervisor (EPS) in English, Dr. Gina Silvestre, lent her expertise to evaluate the integration of effective communication and English language skills into the demonstrations. Her feedback, rooted in academic rigor, was both encouraging and enlightening.
The highlight of the session was the synergy between the demo teachers and the observers. As each demonstration concluded, the observers shared their observations, offering commendations for strengths and thoughtful suggestions for improvement. The interactive nature of the feedback sessions fostered a collaborative environment, where the demo teachers felt supported and motivated to continue refining their craft.

The participants watched intently, drawing inspiration from the demo teachers' performances and the observers' feedback. The 18 teachers not only displayed their teaching prowess but also exemplified the passion and commitment that define ALS educators. Their lessons served as a blueprint for implementers to emulate and adapt, ensuring that the transformative potential of work-based learning and entrepreneurial education would reach ALS learners across the division.

The second day of the multiplier training for Alternative Learning System (ALS) implementers unfolded with a sense of elevated importance and optimism. With the esteemed presence of the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, Sir Antonio P.Delos Reyes, CESE and the Schools Division Superintendent Dr.Winnie E. Batoon, CESO V, the gathering took on a heightened atmosphere of collaboration and inspiration.In his heartfelt address, ASDS Antonio P. Delos Reyes emphasized the transformative potential of work-based learning and the "Be Your Own Boss" implementation in empowering ALS learners. His words served as a rallying call, encouraging implementers to embrace innovation and think boldly as they carried the torch of this vital initiative.
Following this, the Schools Division Superintendent took the stage with an insightful keynote speech. He painted a vivid picture of how the ALS program, coupled with work-based learning, could open doors to self-sufficiency and opportunity for learners who often face immense challenges. Their commitment to educational equity and their belief in the program's potential to foster entrepreneurial mindsets resonated deeply with the attendees. Their messages set the tone for the day's sessions, infusing a renewed sense of purpose among the implementers.
