Despite being one of the smallest programs among the nine in our faculty, BLECEd stood resilient and determined during Panaghugpong 2026 last February 25-26, 2026.

Extending educational support to strengthen community literacy, Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) has begun its PAGBASA: Proffering Adequate Guide in Building a Sustainable Advocacy intervention program for the Happy Fish Kids (HFK) Community today, November 29, at Taganilao, Tamisan, City of Mati.

The HFK Learning Center started with its Day 1 of reading intervention for Grades 2โ€“6 elementary learners, who engaged in guided reading sessions designed to improve fluency, comprehension, and foundational literacy skills.

Simultaneously, high school learners completed their diagnostic test at the Gavino Dawang Elementary School covered court, a nearby venue that provided adequate space for the assessment.
Spearheaded by DOrSU's Faculty of Teacher Education (FTEd) particularly the lead programs Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics (BSED-Math), Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECED), and Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNED), the initiative, with strong support from DOrSU President Roy G. Ponce, reinforces the universityโ€™s commitment to advancing educational support in partner communities for a better culture of reading that opens doors to learning, growth, and opportunity.

This activity aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all. It also supports DOrSU's GROWTH Agenda by fostering literacy, skills development, and community empowerment as pathways to local and national progress.

Also in collaboration for the success of the activities are the invaluable support of HFK Learning Center Coordinators, Community Leaders, AIM-MPC, and the Department of Education (DepEd).
