The Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) โ Cooperative Development Center (DOrSU-CDC) has taken its capacity-building efforts a province farther, rolling out a three-day Training of Trainers (T.O.T) for Cooperatives in Digos City on November 18โ20, 2025.
โ
The activity was organized by the DOrSU โ CDC led by Director Jeni A. Nicolas in partnership with the Provincial Cooperative Union (PCU) of Davao del Sur, represented by Vice Chair Engr. Jonas Placer. It is the CDCโs second (T.O.T) run outside Davao Oriental and part of its thrust to widen its reach as an accredited training provider for cooperatives and peopleโs organizations in Region XI. The first off-province rollout was held last year in Davao City, and brought together officers and stakeholders of the Cooperative Union of Davao City (CUDC) for a similar trainersโ course.
โ
The Digos training gathered cooperative officers and development workers for a structured program that combined lectures, workshops, and practicum sessions. The activity opened with a perspective-setting module on cooperatives as tools for development.
โ
On the second day, participants focused on the โnuts and boltsโ of training work through a module on training for cooperative development, which covered the training cycle, training needs analysis, training design, delivery, evaluation, and management. Participants designed their own training programs and drafted instructional materials, including outputs that explored the use of AI as a support tool for developing learning content.
โ
The third day concluded with a module on cooperative training skills and techniques, highlighting activity design, essential trainer qualities, presentation skills, and facilitation strategies. Micro-training sessions across the three days further allowed participants to conduct short demo lessons, receive feedback, and refine their output.
โ
Resource persons included Ms. Khristine Mae Y. Ramiro, Dr. Mary Fil M. Bauyot, Ms. Jeni A. Nicolas, and Mr. Robie V. Catubigan, who took turns leading the sessions throughout the three days.
โ
Through this activity, DOrSU-CDC aimed to develop a stronger pool of local trainers capable of delivering structured, well-designed learning sessions to cooperatives at the municipal and barangay levels. The Center plans to continue rolling out similar initiatives in other areas of the region as part of its expanding capacity-building work for grassroots organizations.
