Strengthening Local Livelihoods through Quality Planting Materials! ๐ŸŒ ๐ŸŒฑ

The DaCARS Tissue Culture Team delivered and turned over 800 Cardaba banana tissue-cultured seedlings to the Nuestra Seรฑora de Regla, an HVCDP-identified association in Barangay Langtud, Laak, Davao de Oro on August 13, 2026.

The seedlings were transported from DaCARS, Mati City, Davao Oriental to support local farmers with high-quality, disease-free planting materials that can contribute to better yields, food security, and sustainable income.

As part of the turnover, the DaCARS Tissue Culture Team also conducted a brief orientation on proper Cardaba banana planting, care, and farm management practices to help ensure the successful establishment and growth of the seedlings.

Together, we continue to grow opportunities, strengthen communities, and cultivate a more resilient agricultural sector.

A step toward a more inclusive and sustainable livelihood!

On August 6, 2026, 100 upgraded chickens and 5 native pigs were distributed to the Association of Differently-Abled Person, Inc. (ADAP) in Menzi, Don Martin Marundan, and Matiao, Mati City.

This livelihood assistance was provided in response to the associationโ€™s request to help strengthen their income-generating activities and create sustainable opportunities for its members.

Through initiatives like this, we continue to support communities in building resilient livelihoodsโ€”because everyone deserves an opportunity to grow, thrive, and prosper. ๐ŸŒฑโœจ

On July 22, 2026, the Corn and Cassava Team of the Davao Commercial Agriculture Research Station (DaCARS) successfully delivered 311 bundles of cassava cuttings consisting of the Golden Cassava and Lakan 1 varieties to the Municipality of Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

The planting materials were requested by Ms. Uly Rose T. Lindong, Acting Municipal Agriculturist of Bansalan, to support local farmers' associations that have expressed the need for quality cassava planting materials.

Through this initiative, DaCARS continues to promote the dissemination of high-quality cassava varieties, helping strengthen farmers' productivity, improve livelihood opportunities, and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable agricultural sector.

The DaCARS Tissue Culture Team successfully delivered 1,200 high-quality Lakatan banana seedlings to the Catagbacan-Pagsilaan-Cabiawan-B**ga-Balete Farmers Association on July 23, 2026, at Purok Pagsilaan, Holy Cross, Manay, Davao Oriental.

The delivery aims to support and strengthen farmersโ€™ livelihoods by providing quality planting materials that can contribute to improved banana production and sustainable agricultural development.

Transported from the Davao Commercial Agriculture Research Station (DaCARS) in Mati City, the seedlings were turned over to the association, followed by a brief orientation on proper Lakatan banana planting and management practices.

On July 17, 2026, DaCARS team headed by their Agricultural Center Chief III, Mr. Ramon T. Maulit, Jr., successfully conducted the delivery and distribution of livestock and forage assistance to qualified farmer-beneficiaries in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental, in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU), and Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO).

The assistance benefited the following farmer organizations:
Barangay Mandug Farmers Association โ€“ 9 heads of native pigs
Sergio Osmeรฑa Anti-Communist Brigade Agrivet Farmers Association โ€“ 150 native chickens, 8 heads of native pigs, and 650 forage planting materials.

The activity was attended by Hon. Perlito M. Tanduyan, Municipal Councilor (Committee on Agriculture), together with Mr. Rhicris Cordua of the Municipal Agriculture Office, who expressed their continued support for agricultural development and sustainable livelihood initiatives in the municipality.

This initiative reflects DaCARS' commitment to strengthening local food production, enhancing farmers' livelihoods, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices through collaborative partnerships. As many parts of the Philippines continue to experience the effects of prolonged dry spells and rising temperatures, farmers are among those most affected by water shortages, declining crop productivity, and increased production costs. These challenges highlight the importance of adopting climate-resilient farming practices to protect our food supply and livelihoods.

The Davao Commercial Agriculture Research Station (DaCARS) encourages farmers and the public to take proactive steps in reducing the impact of El Niรฑo. By implementing practical measures such as conserving water, improving soil moisture, using drought-tolerant crop varieties, and adjusting planting schedules, we can strengthen our farms against the effects of extreme weather.
