During summer vacation, we often see children playing around. This is their way of spending time and a break from going to school. They used to do and have recreational activities in a new environment.

But today, another Brigada Pagbasa volunteer answered the call and got the chance to let these children pause for a while in their liesure moments.

He is Jake S. RaotRaot, a fresh SHS graduate and a former Reading Club President of the school. Jake took the task positively as this kind of activity reminds him of being a reading advocate.

Mayo National High School continues to implement Brigada Pagbasa program as an off campus reading activity. Every year, the school is linking with reading volunteers in Brgy. Mayo. These volunteers are coming from religious groups, SK Kagawads, alumni, and even parents.

The Brigada Pagbasa has been a practice of the school. This provides platform for teachers to continually reach out learners allowing them to experience reading various texts with the help of the partners and volunteers.The program becomes an avenue for learners to engage and encourage them to keep on practicing reading texts before days of classes.

This year's conduct of Brigada Pagbasa is in accordance to the theme, Brigada Eskwela: Sama-sama sa Bayang Bumabasa. This highligjts the effort in improving literacy among learners.

The school expresses its warmest thanks to our Brigada Pagbasa hero, Ms. Mearylin P. Turing - our former student and now taking BS Nursing at DORSU. Despite the busy schedules she has, Mearylin responded to the call.

The Brigada Eskwela as a five-day activity has an inclusion of literacy as a key priority of the Department of Education. This is also in consonance to this year's theme, Brigada Eskwela: Sama-sama Para sa Bayang Bumabasa, which highlights a nationwide effort and volunteerism on literacy development.

Mayo National High School through its School Head Sir Joselito M. Hugue, responded to the call of efforts. The plan and preparaton for Literacy Assessment was conducted with the help of the School Reading Coordinator, Ma'am Sitti Ayessa G. Tiago.

The actual implementaion of literacy assessment is being spearheaded by Ma'am Niña Joy H. Calungsod - an English teacher and the school SSLG adviser.

Furthermore, the conduct of literacy assessment is giving students an opportunity to be assessed in terms of their reading skills. Through this, learners will have advance encounters of reading passages either through oral or silent ways. Even though the school year is yet to commence on Monday, June 16, 2025, the students since day 1 of Brigada Eskwela are being introduced to reading of texts that can awaken and test their sense of understanding. The assessments will be of great help in crafting possible interventions necessary for the improvement of students's ability in reading.

Thus, this literacy assessment implementation prior to the opening of classes showcases the spirit of Bayanihan as the teachers and parents convene allowing the students to express their thoughts from the material read either in writing or oral ways using the language.

After three days of Bayanihan sa Paaralan for this year's Brigada Eskwela, the school is thrilled to have reached this level of readiness. Three days of uniting various groups of people with one goal - providing a safe and conducive learning environment for the students.

The school extends it sincerest thanks to all heroes who volunteered rendering their services - their efforts and time spent surely made a difference in the lives of our young learners.

With the leadership of our School Head, continued support of the Brgy. Mayo community, and active involvement of the faculty and staff as the frontliners showed a strong testament of commitment to education. That by working together, this Brigada Eskwela becomes a success.

The school is adherent to providing safer and more conducive learning environment as this year's operation of classes will commence on Monday, June 16, 2025. Also, the school is making sure that the parts of all persons involved will be done in accordance to the will of public service.

We still have days before the opening of classes. The school still hopes to see volunteers and kind-hearted individuals to come to school and become part of realizing the spirit of Bayanihan.

Thus, Mayo NHS always adheres to do its duty by ensuring a better place and responsive to the needs of the students. Moreover, the school will always corroborate and adaptive to the directives of the higher offices all for the betterment of our young dreamers and our beloved country.
