The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, commemorates the divine motherhood of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of our Lord and God, Jesus Christ.
On this day, we are reminded of the role that the Blessed Virgin played in the plan of our salvation. Christ's birth was made possible by Mary's fiat: "Be it done unto me according to Thy word."
The Solemnity of Mary, January 1, is a holy day of obligation.

The Feast of the Holy Family
The Feast of the Holy Family is a Roman Catholic religious festival held on the first Sunday after Christmas. Although there are major feast days dedicated to each member of the Holy FamilyโJesus, Mary, and Josephโthe Feast of the Holy Family commemorates their life together and focuses on religious family life. Because of the Holy Family's flight into Egypt, Copts have observed a feast for the Holy Family since ancient times.

Simbang Gabi
Also known as โmisa de galloโ or โmass of the roosterโ, which gained its name from the early rising birds. It is a tradition with 9 consecutive masses from December 16 to Christmas eve which anticipates the nativity. Simbang Gabi began during the early days of Spanish rule in the Philippines as a practical compromise for farmers who began work before sunrise to avoid the noonday heat in the fields. priests started to celebrate Mass in the early mornings for the Farmers. This beloved Christmas tradition has developed into a distinctive aspect of Philippine culture.

//GAUDETE SUNDAY - 3rd Sunday of Advent//
[Sem. Cayetano Manuel Letada]
[Sem. Joshua Sanguenza]
-WHAT IS GAUDETE SUNDAY?-
The Advent season shifts its focus on Gaudete Sunday. The focus of the first two weeks of Advent can be summarized as "The Lord is Coming," but beginning with Gaudete Sunday, the focus may be "The Lord is Near." This shift is marked by a bright mood and a strong awareness of Blissful Preparation.
We anticipate both the celebration of Christ's birth and His second coming at the end of time during the Advent season. We spend four weeks in penitential reflection preparing our hearts for Christmas. But Gaudete Sunday, which falls in the middle of the season, calls us to rejoice in hope!
Gaudete Sunday is a joyous celebration. Even though it occurs within the traditionally penitential season of Advent, Gaudete Sunday acts as a mid-point reprieve from the somber rituals to celebrate the impending birth of Jesus.
-WHERE DOES THE NAME COME FROM?-
The word โgaudeteโ is derived from the Latin words โgaudium,โ joy, and โgaudeo,โ to rejoice or be glad. Gaudete is taken from the Entrance Antiphon: โRejoice in the Lord always; again, I say, rejoice. Indeed, the Lord is nearโ (paraphrase, Phil 4:4-5).
-WHEN IS GAUDETE SUNDAY?-
Gaudete Sunday is the third Sunday of Advent. The date usually falls between December 11 to 17 each year. Gaudete Sunday this year was on December 11, 2022.

Beginning the Church's liturgical year, Advent from the Latin word "ad-venire which means "to come" is the season encompassing the four Sundays and also weekdays leading up to the celebration of Christmas.
The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ's second coming at the end of time as well as the Christmas anniversary of Our Lord's birth. This year's Advent Season will begin on November 27, 2022 and will end on December 24, 2022. Here is some information about the liturgical season to help us get a better picture of what this season has in store for us.
