Though it may not be the first thing you’d expect in a fruit salad, okra, also known as lady’s fingers, is technically a fruit. It's a commonly eaten seed pod that contains seeds, much like other “veggie-fruits” such as eggplants, tomatoes, and squash.

Beyond its classification, okra is a nutrient powerhouse, packed with fiber, vitamin B6, zinc, vitamin K, and a variety of other essential vitamins and minerals. Interestingly, it’s not just the pods that are edible—other parts of the okra plant can also be used in a range of dishes.
