MPC, OLOPSC Forge Strategic Partnership to Strengthen Student Workforce Readiness

Marikina Polytechnic College and Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a Student Immersion Program on May 14, 2026. The signing ceremony, held at the OLOPSC campus, marks a significant shift in local education toward the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) mandate of transforming training venues into "pedagogical partners”.

In his Message of Commitment and Partnership, MPC President Rene M. Colocar emphasized that the college is committed to providing more than just basic supervision. “When I first reviewed the proposal for this Student Immersion Program, one word kept coming back to me: ‘hanapbuhay’. But not just any livelihood- maayos at makabuluhang hanapbuhay. MPC has always been proud of our ‘marunong gumawa’ brand of education. We are not merely signing a document. We are building a bridge - a bridge between theory and practice, between the classroom and the real world, between our two institutions and the future of our students,” Pres. Colocar stated. This response operationalizes the national goal of human capital development championed by CHED Chairperson Shirley C. Agrupis at the recent Higher Education Summit 2026.

The three-year partnership establishes a comprehensive framework where OLOPSC Senior High School students from both the Academic and Technical-Vocational Track/Cluster will undergo between 80 to 320 hours of specialized training within MPC’s facilities and offices. The said agreement ensures that the work immersion is directly relevant to the students' future courses and professions.

OLOPSC President Dr. Armida Salvador-Samaniego expressed optimism regarding the collaboration, stating it would open professional doors for their SHS students. The day served as a dual milestone for OLOPSC, as the institution also celebrated the official launch of the College of Business, Management, Science, and Education later that afternoon.

Office of Student Affairs Director Prof. Rialita A. Villareña emphasized that this initiative underscores MPC’s commitment to community engagement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. She said, “It also advances national workforce readiness. By aligning with industry standards and instilling essential skills and values, we prepare students to be skilled Filipino workforce.”

Also in attendance are OLOPSC Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Angelie Marie Vizconde, SHS Principal Ms. Jevilyn B.Candelario, Immersion Chair Ms. Liesel Peregrino, MPC Board Secretary Dr. Renylin M. Udaundo, Records and Information Center Director Dr. Menere R. Nasiad, and Recruitment, Executive Assistant Prof. Wieson DG. Resultan and Vocational Placement Coordinator Prof. Maria Rosario C. Somera.

Innovation Fair 2026
Bridging Human Connection and Future Tech

May 13, 2026 - MPCians witnessed the fusion of academic excellence, digital entrepreneurship, and leadership training on the third day of Marikina Polytechnic College’s Innovation Fair 2026. The line-up of activities was anchored on the college’s mission to produce professionals who are as socially responsible as they are technically proficient.

The "Innovative Demonstration Teaching Contest" served as a centerpiece for the day, featuring 10 outstanding practice teachers. Finalists John Leo Ybañez and Cyrril Karl Quinto impressed the audience with creative teaching strategies, showcasing a new wave of academic instruction in the evolving educational landscape. Ybañez, a graduating student with nine years of experience in church ministry, demonstrated a seasoned confidence in the classroom. In contrast, Quinto focused on the fulfillment found in interactive learning, emphasizing the growth of students through engaging information sharing.

Simultaneously, the Institute of Business Management hosted the “Go-Innovate” series as part of its Business Expo 2026, which aimed to equip students with cutting-edge insights into the digital economy. The event featured tech-heavy discussions with StartUp Village Director Carlo Calimon, I-Metrics Asia-Pacific Director Janette Toral, and Orange Leaf Digital Printing Services General Manager Leah Ayeng.

Mr. Calimon discussed integrating technology into traditional business models at “The Go-Inovasyon Talk,” Ms. Toral shared her insights on the rising role of AI and Augmented Reality in modern marketing at the “The Go-Digital Talk,” and Ms. Ayeng talked about leveraging blockchain for transparency and sustainability at the “Go-Negosyo Mentor Me Panel”.

Dean of the College of Engineering Dr. Marie Luvett I. Goh said, “Initiatives like this strengthen our commitment to innovation-driven education, industry collaboration, and transformative learning experiences that prepare our students to become globally competitive and socially responsible professionals.”

The College of Engineering hosted the “Engineering Skills Challenge 2026,” featuring high-intensity PC assembly and Sumobot competitions that pushed students’ technical boundaries. Library and Information Science students showcased their digital creativity through logo and poster-making contests that featured the intersection of information management and creative design.

Student leaders convened for a seminar titled “Tamang Proseso, Mahusay na Pamumuno: Parliamentary Procedure para sa mga Lider Estudyante” at the Technology Business Incubator - Administration Building. Facilitated by Dean for Instruction Dr. Medardo B. Bombita, the session focused on the ethical foundations of leadership. Through practical applications of parliamentary rules, participants honed their ability to lead meetings with fairness.

The day concluded with the “Heritage at Business Capital” forum at the Academic Building, where facilitators Mr. Reden Cruz Reyes and Engineer Kris Andrew B. Trinidad shared their insights on a new era for Marikina City’s shoe industry. During the “Likhang Kamay” session, Mr. Reyes urged local shoemakers to harmonize design with strict manufacturing standards in the pursuit to elevate the Philippine footwear to a global stage. Engr. Trinidad presented “The AI Advantage,” demonstrating how artificial intelligence can transform traditional businesses into future-ready enterprises.

Innovation Fair 2026
L.E.A.P Forward: Stepping into Future Success

Marikina Polytechnic College successfully concluded Day 2 of its Innovation Fair 2026 on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, highlighting a strategic shift toward career readiness and digital transformation. The event, themed “L.E.A.P. FORWARD: Launching Employable Achievers with Purpose,” served as a response to the Commission on Higher Education 2026 Agenda, which prioritizes "workforce-first" outcomes. With the Implementing Rules and Regulations finalized earlier this year, Higher Education Institutions are mandated to ensure graduating students are literate in labor rights and workplace ethics.

The program was anchored by administrative leaders who reminded students that technical skills must be complemented by institutional core values. Dr. Ma. Arra B. Santos-Bava, Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasized in her talk that the college’s mission is to produce graduates who are "immediately employable."

Engineer Shiela I. Villanueva, Director of the Human Resource Management Office, led the session “Ace Interviews,” where she shared practical interview techniques, communication skills, and the importance of authenticity and personal growth. Meanwhile, Engineer Marie Luvett I. Goh, Dean of the College of Engineering, discussed the importance of building strong e-portfolios and maintaining a professional online presence during her talk, “Portfolio Building Essentials.”

Reflecting CHED’s push for Micro-credentialing and Digitalization, Engr. Marie Luvett I. Goh, Dean of the College of Engineering, led a session on "Portfolio Building Essentials." She challenged students to view their documentation as a living history of their competence.

“Five years from now, your portfolio will either be proof of your growth or proof of missed opportunities,” Engr. Goh stated. “Remember, skills may get you noticed, but character and presentation will set you apart. So start today and keep growing.” This aligns with the national move toward "stackable" digital credentials, where a student’s ability to prove their growth over time is as valuable as the degree itself.

Leading the charge on professional identity, Professor Rialita A. Villareña, Director of the Office of Student Affairs, explained the concept of the "corporate look." She emphasized that professional success begins with a grounded self-presentation.

“Power dressing is not about looking glamorous; rather, it’s about projecting an image that is appropriate, authentic, attractive, and affordable,” Prof. Villareña reminded the graduates.
Closing the seminar, Dr. Medardo B. Bombita, Dean of the College of Instructions, underscored that character and integrity remain the most critical "soft skills" mandated by the evolving professional landscape.

The afternoon session featured various competitions and exhibits such as “Habi ng Lipi” Fashion Show by Institute of Technical Teacher Education (Garments Fashion and Design), Sustainable Digital Footwear Design Competition by Institute of Business Management, Innovative Delivery of Future Educators through Video Editing Contest by Institute of Technical Teacher Education, Website/Digital Library Design Contest by Bachelor of Library and Information Science, and the Engineering Skills Challenge 2026 focused on CodeCraft Programming and Circuit Build Off by College of Engineering and Association of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
