Leodegario Victorino Elementary School HISTORY OF LVES

If we will trace back how Leodegario Victorino elementary School came to be, we will be turning the pages of time in 1914.

it was then called Tañong Barrio School, with only a two-room building being occupied by Grades One and Two pupils, constructed on the land donated by the Tuazon family, on condition that the lot would be returned to the donor if the school building would be removed. Through the efforts of Mr. Isidro Salvador, who was principal of Marikina Central School, another building was constructed, giving

way to a complete primary school, which later became a complete elementary school, with Mr. Victorino Santos as the first principal. The school made history during the Japanese-American war in 1941 when the Japanese occupied one of the building and burned it before evacuating to the mountains. In 1950, a four-room Gabaldon-type building was built, through the efforts of the PTA, the barrio folks and the teaching force. It was named Jesus dela Peña Tañong Elementary School. Through the years, additional buildings were built, one of which was the Rodriguez type which still exist up to the present. In 1964, the Home Economics building was constructed followed by the Munding-type shop building. In 1971, a six-room and two-room Marcos type buildings were constructed. In 1973, the Galbaldon-type building was demolished to give way to a sixteen-room, two-storey building courtesy of ex-governor Isidro Rodriguez of Rizal. From Tañong Barrio School to Jesus dela Peña Tañong Elementary School was born Leodegario Victorino Elementary School which was named in memory of Leodegrio Victorino, a native of Jesus dela Peña, Marikina Rizal, who was the first Filipino Schools Division Superintendent of Rizal, considered to be the premiere province of the Philippines at that time.
