Marikina Athlete Shines at Palarong Pambansa 2026, Captures Two Silver Medals in PARA Games Athletics

The Schools Division Office (SDO) of Marikina proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of James Jay Ang of Sta. Elena High School (SEHS), who earned two silver medals in PARA Games Athletics during the Palarong Pambansa 2026 held at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Sports Complex in Patin-ay, Agusan del Sur.

Competing against some of the country’s finest young athletes, James Jay demonstrated exceptional determination, resilience, and athletic excellence. His outstanding performance on the national stage reflects not only his hard work and dedication but also the unwavering support of his coaches, school, family, and the Marikina community.

As Marikina continues to champion inclusive sports and holistic learner development, James Jay’s accomplishment stands as a powerful reminder that determination transforms challenges into opportunities and dreams into achievements worth celebrating.

The Schools Division Office (SDO) of Marikina City conducted the Division Capacity Building on Lesson Planning and Assessment under the New Learning System Reform Policies on June 1 and 3, 2026, at the Marikina Convention Center, Barangay Concepcion Dos, Marikina City.

Aligned with the Department of Education’s ongoing learning reforms and the implementation of the revised curriculum, the two-day workshop brought together Education Program Supervisors, Public Schools District Supervisors, School Heads, Assistant Principals, and Learning Area Focal Persons and Coordinators from the 34 public elementary and secondary schools. The activity aims to provide hard core training cm workshop on lesson planning and assessment to ensure quality delivery of the revised curriculum aligned with the new learning system reform policies under DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2026. During the activity, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐣𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨 𝐆. 𝐈𝐛𝐚ñ𝐞𝐳, 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 emphasized the importance of the new learning system reform policies. He also highlighted the critical role of school leaders and teachers in ensuring the successful implementation of the curriculum reforms.

The participants were grouped into breakout sessions across eight subject areas. The Education Program Supervisors served as resource speakers and emphasized the importance of effective lesson planning, the integration of appropriate instructional strategies, and the use of relevant assessment methods aligned with the learning competencies and standards of the revised curriculum.

Participants also took part in collaborative learning sessions, workshops and output development activities. They used the Three-Term Budget of Work (BOW) as a key reference in developing contextualized lesson plans and assessment tools for the upcoming academic terms.

Through this initiative, SDO Marikina reaffirmed its commitment to supporting schools and educators as they adapt to educational reforms. This activity also served as professional learning opportunity to the educators in promoting instructional excellence and ensuring that all Marikina learners receive a responsive, relevant, and high-quality teaching and learning experiences thereby achieving meaningful learning outcomes in SDO-Marikina.

Malanday Elementary School Prepares for Division-Wide Launch of “Reading Nook: Read to RISE”

Every corner tells a story, and every story opens a world of possibilities.

In support of the Department of Education–National Capital Region (DepEd-NCR) Reading Nooks: Read to RISE Program, Malanday Elementary School successfully received 50 Reading Nooks on May 29, 2026, through the generosity and support of the Local Government of Marikina City under the leadership of Mayor Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro and Cong. Marcelino “Marcy”Teodoro. The Reading Nooks were officially distributed to teachers during the opening of Brigada Eskwela 2026 on June 1 at the school gymnasium.

Following the distribution, teachers enthusiastically prepared and decorated their assigned reading spaces, transforming ordinary classroom corners into vibrant, welcoming, and learner-friendly environments that encourage pupils to develop a love for reading. These dedicated spaces provide learners with accessible and age-appropriate reading resources that help strengthen literacy skills and cultivate lifelong learning habits.

The school is currently making final preparations for the Division-Wide Launching of the Reading Nooks Program on June 9, 2026, ensuring that all reading corners are ready to serve as engaging spaces where learners can read, imagine, discover, and grow.

Malanday Elementary School extends its sincere gratitude to the Local Government of Marikina City, led by Mayor Maan Teodoro and Congressman Marcy Teodoro, for their unwavering support in providing and completing the Reading Nooks for all Kindergarten to Grade 3 classrooms. This initiative reflects the city’s steadfast commitment to promoting literacy development and quality education among young learners.

The school likewise expresses its heartfelt appreciation to School Head Dr. Aizaleen M. Garchitorena, the teaching and non-teaching personnel, parents, and stakeholders for their continuous support, cooperation, and dedication in fostering a culture of reading within the school community.

Dominance Sustained: NCR Metro Stars Crowned Overall Champions Anew in 2026 Palarong Pambansa

DepEd NCR Metro Stars once again proved their unmatched dominance by clinching the overall championship title in the 2026 Palarong Pambansa in Agusan del Sur with the total of 233 medals (91 gold, 71 silver and 71 bronze.) Through outstanding performances across various sporting events, the region continued its legacy of excellence, discipline, and the unwavering commitment of its student-athletes, coaches, and support staff.

With another remarkable haul of medals and consistent top finishes in multiple disciplines, NCR reaffirmed its status as the benchmark of youth sports excellence in the country. A heartfelt congratulations to all athletes, coaches, schools, and supporters who made this victory possible, your hard work and dedication continue to inspire greatness and pride for the region. Looking forward to the 20th championship next year, especially with excitement for it being held in our home region once again.
