𝐔𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 | 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲 🦅💥

Approximately 20 lakes are recognized as ancient lakes on Earth, with Lake Lanao being one of them. It is home to multiple endemic species of cyprinids—meaning they are only found or are constantly present in this area and found nowhere else on Earth—yet most of these species of aquatic wildlife have faced extinction.

The 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 celebrates 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 as we zoom out off fish-eye lens and also look beyond the waters. Ranaw Province is home to multiple wildlife species, such as native mammals, migratory waterbirds, rescued raptors, and many more, yet even the knowledge of their existence is unsung. We must urge ourselves to be aware of the life around us for us to be able to defend our ecosystem from habitat destruction, deforestation, pollution, and even overexploitation.

"𝐎𝐡, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐟𝐞𝐰..." 🍂 As the academic tempo picks up and the days grow short when you reach September, every single moment becomes precious. Don't let time slip away—make every day count and photosynthesize all the opportunities ahead! 🌿✨

Mark your calendars, future biologists! Here is what's coming up this month for the Society of Life Sciences Students:

𝗦𝗲𝗽 𝟭𝟭 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗼-𝗗𝗮𝘆
𝗦𝗲𝗽 𝟭𝟮–𝟭𝟯 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴
𝗦𝗲𝗽 𝟮𝟭 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗦𝗦 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵

These precious days are "a game I have no time to lose." Get involved, collaborate with your fellow biologists, and wear your department pride!

The 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 proudly celebrates the 𝟲𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 of 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆. Six and a half decades ago, the University was established to answer the Moro question of access to education.

As people who are deeply and inexplicably tied to the environment—as our identity, ancestral domains, and economic survival are directly defined by the geography of Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago—the seeds planted in yesterday's garden have sprouted into a pivotal institution that equips the youth as the continuing hope of tomorrow.

Water is a source of life, and for the Ranaw Province, it applies literally and its waters run deep in its people's history, culture, and livelihood. It's no secret that our environment shapes the people that live within it, from their way of life to how they survive.

The 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 celebrates 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 and remembers—like how the forests may bring about cultivators, how arid deserts lead to oasis agriculturists, how high altitudes forge persistent miners—how Lanao Lake shaped navigators, fishermen, and river-way traders. During the Biology Department Undergraduate Orientation 2026 (August 25, 2026), we proudly unveiled something we have been working on—a glimpse into who we are, what we do, and what makes our Biology Department a community of learners, educators, researchers, and future biologists.

From the classroom to the laboratory, from research to community engagement, from biodiversity to the molecular world—Biology is more than a degree. It is a journey of discovery.
