𝗔𝗠𝗞𝗮 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲!

We extend our sincere congratulations to 𝐓𝐰𝐨 (𝟐) 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫𝐬, 𝐌𝐫𝐬. 𝐇𝐚𝐬𝐧𝐢𝐚 𝐆. 𝐃𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐨 and 𝐌𝐫. 𝐀𝐲𝐨𝐛 𝐀. 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧, who completed their 160-hour internship for HST198 under Prof. Jihan Bacug, and were the pioneer batch deployed to the 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗣𝗩𝗔𝗢) in Manila City.

Under the Department of National Defense, PVAO is the agency entrusted with honoring Filipino war veterans by preserving their legacy through pension administration, memorialization, and shrine management.

Mr. Saidamen was assigned to the 𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘋𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, while Mrs. Dimaampao to the 𝘚𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵. Both are complementary to the historical practice about archival stewardship and material conservation of sites bearing collective and national memory.

𝐃𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐧-𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚's articles to the research entitled "𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐥𝐮 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝: 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐦 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐬." Their separate articles are featured in Occasional Paper No. 46. of the 𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘈𝘳𝘦𝘢 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘢 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘺 (SIAS) at Tokyo, Japan and were one of the the official proceedings of the International Seminar held at Mindanao State University– Marawi, Main Campus on September 7, 2024.

Edited by Professor Emeritus Kawashima Midori and released in 2026 (ISBN 978-4-909070-35-7).

This volume reaffirms the objectives of the Department toward significant intellectual discourse of the Mindanao and Sulu Islamic Manuscript Studies and to the broader Malay region.

This is one of the highlights of Prof. Tirmizy's discussion, as he discussed Bangsamoro History: Identity formation during the Islamic Symposium on April 26, 2026 at International Convention Center.

He emphasized how important education is in order to further understand the Bangsamoro cause.

"Peace agreements are signed. Institutions are built. But for many in the Bangsamoro, such as Lanao del Sur, social security remains elusive."

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙨𝙤𝙨𝙖𝙨𝙮𝙤𝙣 𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙜𝙖 𝘿𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙗𝙝𝙖𝙨𝙖, 𝙈𝙖𝙮-𝙃𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙜 𝙖𝙩 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙨 𝙨𝙖 𝙆𝙖𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙣 (𝘼𝘿𝙃𝙄𝙆𝘼) 𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙨, 𝙄𝙣𝙘. under the theme '𝙋𝙖𝙜𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙖 𝙢𝙜𝙖 𝙉𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙗𝙤 𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙜𝙖 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙬𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙖 𝙆𝙖𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙣 𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙨', the conference contributes to the diverse regional perspectives of Mindanao as part of the Philippine historical discourse. It brings together researchers, educators, and students from across the Philippines to exchange insights about "Mindanawon."

In the event, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗢. 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗰 presents the non-profit organization 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙤 𝙃𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙘𝙮 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙥's projects and activities. She discussed ongoing initiatives, community work, and the advocacy for making Mindanao histories and studies more visible and relevant in education and public conversations.

Also, joining the conference were Prof. Jihan Bacug, Prof. Carol Antonio, and BA History majors taking 𝗛𝗦𝗧𝟬𝟰𝟬 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗽𝗵𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, with Norlette Rabago.

During Day 3's 𝙇𝙖𝙠𝙗𝙖𝙮 𝘼𝙧𝙖𝙡, the delegation had the valuable opportunity to visit historical and project sites throughout Bukidnon.

𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐀 𝐒𝐀 𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐒𝐀𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐎

Before the postponement of the first Parliamentary Elections for the BARMM in October 2025, the History Department organized a two-part seminar series in September 2025 to help students deepen their understanding of the Bangsamoro. The sessions focused on:

(1) Bangsamoro Struggle and Moral (Moro) Governance; and
(2) The importance of preserving peace agreements and historical documents to protect the long-term peace process in Mindanao for future generations.

𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝟬𝟭: 𝗕𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗦𝗔𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗢 𝟭𝟬𝟭

This seminar introduced the historical roots of the Bangsamoro, including why the Moro people have long asserted their right to self-determination: the BARMM as the collective aspirations of our ancestors. Also, it highlighted the significance of the first BARMM Parliamentary Elections as a historic milestone that will shape the future identity and political journey of the Moro people in Mindanao. Because of this, the event has explained the distinction between Moral and Good Governance, and how these might shape the transition of authority in the Bangsamoro Region.

𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝟬𝟮: 𝗕𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗦𝗔 𝗦𝗔 𝗞𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗪

In partnership with the IPDM MSU Marawi, the offices hosted the “Bangsa sa Kalinaw Project” of the NCCA, which supports the inscription of the Bangsamoro Peace Accords in the UNESCO Memory of the World (MoW) Register. This half-day forum engaged Bangsamoro youth and students on the importance of preserving the memory of the peace process—emphasizing that peace must be remembered, honored, and carried forward as a collective responsibility. To sustain peace, we must inherit memory, not amnesia. Registering the Bangsamoro Peace Accords in the UNESCO MoW safeguards the narratives, truth, and legacy of the Bangsamoro struggle and peace journey.

If history is not remembered, the world forgets our experiences and our identity—“us.” If the essence of BARMM as a peace achievement is not understood, how can its gains endure?

To add, speakers in a public forum were: 𝘿𝙧. 𝘼𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙢 𝙇𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙥𝙝 𝙤𝙛 𝙄𝙋𝘿𝙈, 𝘿𝙧. 𝙉𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙛 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙛 𝙋𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙮 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙇𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝘽𝙏𝘼-𝘽𝘼𝙍𝙈𝙈, 𝘿𝙧. 𝙅𝙪𝙣𝙨𝙪-𝙎𝙚𝙤 𝙤𝙛 𝙄𝘾𝘿𝙃, 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙆𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙖, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙨. 𝙎𝙖𝙢 𝙊𝙝 𝙖𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧. Lastly, it was gracefully ended by the performance of the 𝘒𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘸𝘢𝘵 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦.

This is a rare opportunity for MSU-Marawi, Main Campus, and our Department to be the first institution in Mindanao internationally recognized as a nominator for the inscription of the Peace Accords in UNESCO’s Memory of the World (MoW). This marks a significant objective towards one of the MSU System's key agendas: to become a leading peace university in Mindanao, and in the country.

Most importantly, this is one of initiatives of the History Department to preserve documents, and guard the Bangsamoro grievances and truth.
