Civil Enginerring student researchers, Hisam B. Auguam, Noraya A. Sihabodin, Rainisah M. Comini, Anisalam P. Macabando, and Hussien D. Miondas have successfully defended their research under the supervision of Dr. Abdulhaq R. Ditucalan with their thesis titled "𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐃𝐢𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐝𝐞 (𝐓𝐢𝐎₂)."

Their research evaluates the performance of photocatalytic concrete incorporated with titanium dioxide (TiO₂) as an environmentally friendly construction material capable of reducing surface pollutants and improving environmental conditions. They conclude that photocatalytic concrete incorporating titanium dioxide has strong potential as a sustainable construction material for urban infrastructure.

Civil Engineering students Maguid Jr. M. Mangudadatu , Abdul Jalil H. Basher, Jamailah Panimbalang, and Jehana Sarip have successfully defended their research under the supervision of Dr. Abdulhaq R. Ditucalan with their thesis titled "𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐀𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐬"

Their study explores the use of photoluminescent materials mixed into concrete to create path walk surfaces that can glow in the dark after being exposed to light. They concluded that photoluminescent enhanced concrete has strong potential as a sustainable solution for path walk lighting. It can enhance pedestrian safety while reducing the need for electrical lighting.

The Civil Engineering students, Juhair M. Matanog, Norjahid E. Motalib, Suhaeb M. Antap, Al-Nosair B. Mamaroba, and Jonaif D. Ditual, have successfully defended their research on "𝐒𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐔𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐠𝐠𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐫𝐠𝐲. 𝐆𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐨, 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐢 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲" under the supervision of their adviser, Engr. Soraya M. Cader.

Expansive clay soil is a big problem in construction because it is soft, weak, and changes size when wet or dry, often damaging roads and buildings. This study used eggshell powder (ESP), which is rich in calcium carbonate, to improve the soil taken from Barangay Gadongan Mipantao, Marawi City. The findings showed that adding eggshell powder made the soil less sticky and easier to compact. It also increased the soil strength so it can carry more weight.

𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐒 𝐃𝐄𝐅𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐃!

Student researchers from the College of Information Technology and Engineering presented their research titled "𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 𝐔𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐨 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭." This was successfully defended on April 10, 2026, by Asrica A. Casim, Rayhanie P. Pacalna, Norsedah D. Baulo, Mohammad Faisal B. Bantogaranao, Al Rashin H. Orandig with the guidance of Engr. Yasmen M. Hadji Abdulgani.

Their research found out that 5% replacement is the optimum proportion for enhancing certain soil properties, particularly CBR. The findings concludes that recycled PET and bamboo charcoal can be used as eco-friendly alternative materials for soil stabilization, especially for subgrade applications, although excessive amounts may negatively affect soil strength.

The research titled '𝐌𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐁𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐨 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐟 𝐀𝐬𝐡 (𝐁𝐥𝐚) 𝐚𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐬𝐡 𝐂𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭' was successfully defended by Sailanie S. Unda, Mogni H. H. Usman, Jairah P. Macalabo, Juhary M. Hadjirasid, and Aiman M. Bani from the Department of Civil Engineering, with the supervision of Engr. Yasmen M. Hadji Abdulgani

Their study evaluates the mechanical properties of geopolymer concrete incorporating Bamboo Leaf Ash (BLA) as a partial replacement for fly ash. Specifically, it examined the compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength of concrete with varying BLA replacement levels (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%). It concludes that Bamboo Leaf Ash can be used as a supplementary material in geopolymer concrete when applied at optimal levels. However, excessive replacement may reduce performance, highlighting the importance of proper proportioning.

Student researchers from Department of Social Work — Kauthar S. Saifoden, Sohainah A. Halil, Norjannah M. Sultan, Rosenifa O. Cusari, and Asnimah G. Hadji Noor — successfully defended their research with titled “𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐫𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐈: 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦.” with the guidance of Ms. Johara C. Bayabao-Angni, CSE, MA.

The study examined the emotional, psychological, and financial struggles faced by orphaned students and how they cope with these difficulties. It also aimed to develop a support program to address their needs and promote their academic and personal well-being.

Asinda—student researchers from the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE), Department of Social Work, under the guidance of Ms. Airah E. Haron, RSW—successfully defended their phenomenological research titled “𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐢 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲.”

Student researchers, Hania S. Mandi, Rabia A. Sangcupan, Hairah P. Saripada, Amana H. Piang, and Jehanah D. Farouk— from the Social Work Department, under the supervision of Ms. Airah E. Haron, RSW—have successfully defended their qualitative study titled “𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐢 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲.”

The research explored the experiences of non-Meranao construction workers who have worked in Marawi City for a year or more, focusing on the challenges they face, the effects on their well-being, and their coping mechanisms. It also aimed to provide insights into cultural interactions and workplace dynamics within the city’s construction industry.
