Jan Mari Duhaylungsod, a BS Mechanical Engineering student and Chancellor’s Lister, reflected on his academic journey during the “Crème de la Crème” Recognition Day 2026. He recalled his early struggles with complex subjects like calculus and physics, admitting there were moments when he questioned his own capabilities. His story highlights that academic excellence is built on small, consistent steps and the decision to keep going despite sleepless nights and difficult exams.

He encouraged his fellow students with the reminder, "Layò pa, pero layò na" (Far to go, but already far from where we started). Jan Mari emphasized that this recognition is a testament to resilience, discipline, and the courage to continue climbing regardless of the challenges ahead. We celebrate your hard work and the determination you bring to your studies.

"I still remember my first year as a student, sitting in classes where calculus, physics, and chemistry felt like foreign languages. From basic concepts to complex problems, everything felt overwhelming. There were sleepless nights staring at notes that did not make sense, failed attempts that tested my confidence, and moments when I genuinely questioned if I was capable of continuing this journey.

​Yet, with every effort, every small improvement, every support I received, and every lesson learned, I found myself slowly moving one step higher on that ladder—realizing that progress does not come from giant leaps, but from small consistent steps taken every day. This recognition is not just about high grades or awards; it is about the resilience behind them. The discipline, the group studies, late nights, sacrifices, and the decision, again and again, to keep going."

As future engineers, we don't just build structures, we build safety and resilience. In solidarity with the Bureau of Fire Protection, we will be conducting our semestral drill this week.

EVENT: Semestral Fire and Earthquake Drill
DATE: Wednesday, 8 April 2026
TIME: 9:00 AM
LOCATION: College of Engineering Grounds

𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗧 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗚𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦

• Mandatory Participation: This drill is required for ALL COE personnel and 2nd to 4th-year engineering students.

• ACADEMIC FREEZE: All classes and related activities at the College of Engineering will be put on hold during the event.

• MONITORING: Faculty advisers are required to monitor their advisees' attendance and submit sheets to the College Secretary.

• LOGISTICS: All ESC officers and Department Organization heads are directed to facilitate and assist in the conduct of the drills.

𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗬 | All engineering students, faculty, and staff are 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 to participate in the 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹 on 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟴, from 𝟵:𝟬𝟬 𝗔𝗠 to 𝟭𝟭:𝟬𝟬 𝗔𝗠 at the 𝗖𝗢𝗘 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀. This is in compliance with an official memorandum issued by the college.

This drill is conducted to ensure that everyone is well-prepared and knowledgeable on proper response procedures during emergencies such as fires and earthquakes. 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.

During the activity, remain calm, follow instructions from designated safety officers, and proceed through evacuation routes toward assigned assembly areas in an orderly manner.

𝗘𝗡𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗟 𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

The MSU-Main Engineering Student Council officially announces the opening of the 2026 electoral process. Aspiring student leaders may file their Certificates of Candidacy and submit all necessary documentary requirements from April 13 to April 17, 2026. This period serves as the formal window for those dedicated to serving the college to declare their intent for leadership.

The election cycle will culminate on April 19, 2026, featuring the "Miting de Avance" and the casting of votes. During the Miting de Avance, candidates will present their platforms and engage in public discourse, followed immediately by the general election. All newly elected ESC representatives including the Head Ministers are encouraged to participate actively in these proceedings to ensure a representative and capable student government for the upcoming academic year.
