The training featured ๐๐๐๐ผ๐ฐ. ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ. ๐ก๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ ๐. ๐ง๐ฒ๐ท๐ฎ๐ป๐ผ, ๐๐ฃ๐ง, ๐ ๐๐๐, Chairperson of the Department of Home Economics, as the resource speaker. She shared valuable insights on the fundamentals, advantages, and practical applications of hydroponic gardening, emphasizing its role in promoting sustainable food production and empowering communities to adopt modern agricultural practices even in limited spaces.
Prior to the workshop proper, ๐ ๐. ๐ก๐ผ๐ฟ-๐๐ฎ๐๐บ๐ฎ๐ต ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฎ๐ป ๐ . ๐๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ต๐ถ๐บ, ๐๐ฃ๐ง facilitated a comprehensive recap of Session 1, reinforcing key concepts and reflecting on the positive outcomes and community engagement achieved during the previous training activity.
The success of the program was made possible through the collaborative efforts and unwavering support of the Barangay Officials of Palao and the dedicated RASFI Volunteers, whose active participation and assistance ensured the smooth conduct of the workshop. Residents of Barangay Palao, Marantao, Lanao del Sur actively participated in the launching and first training session on Composting and Mulching under the extension project โKapamagogopa 3.0: Sustaining Communities Through Organic Farming, Nutrition, and Family Wellnessโ implemented by the Department of Home Economics, College of Education, Mindanao State University Main Campus.
The activity introduced participants to the principles and practices of composting and mulching as sustainable agricultural techniques that help improve soil fertility, reduce household and farm waste, conserve soil moisture, and support environmentally friendly food production. Through interactive discussions and practical demonstrations, community members gained valuable knowledge on converting organic waste into nutrient-rich compost and utilizing mulch to enhance plant growth and garden productivity.

๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐ผ, ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ๐ผ ๐๐ฒ๐น ๐ฆ๐๐ฟ - The Department of Home Economics of the College of Education at Mindanao State University - Main Campus officially launched Kapamagogopa 3.0 through its first community training session on ๐๐ค๐ข๐ฅ๐ค๐จ๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ข๐ช๐ก๐๐๐๐ฃ๐ conducted on May 15, 2026, at Barangay Palao, Marantao, Lanao Del Sur, Philippines.
The activity gathered community participants and beneficiaries to learn sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices that can support food production and community wellness. The training served as one of the extension initiatives of the department aimed at empowering communities through practical and sustainable livelihood education.
Serving as the Resource Speaker was ๐ ๐ฟ. ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ฑ ๐ฅ. ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ฐ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ป, ๐๐ฃ๐ง, the ๐๐ง๐ค๐๐๐๐ฉ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ง, who discussed the importance, processes, and benefits of composting and mulching in improving soil fertility and promoting organic farming practices. Participants were also introduced to practical techniques that can be applied in household and community gardening.
To further strengthen the learning experience, a hands-on demonstration on compost preparation and mulching was conducted. Participants actively engaged in the workshop by creating their own outputs and presenting their work, highlighting collaborative learning and community participation.
As part of the projectโs sustainability initiative, the Department formally turned over a ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก๐ค๐ฅ๐๐ ๐ฉ๐ง๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ข๐ค๐๐ช๐ก๐ ๐ค๐ฃ ๐๐ค๐ข๐ฅ๐ค๐จ๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ข๐ช๐ก๐๐๐๐ฃ๐ to the officials of Barangay Palao. The Department of Home Economics, College of Education of the Mindanao State University Main Campus successfully conducted a consultative meeting and site visit held on April 30, 2026, in Barangay Palao, Marantao, Lanao del Sur, in line with its extension project titled โ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ข๐๐๐ค๐๐ค๐ฅ๐ 3.0: ๐๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐พ๐ค๐ข๐ข๐ช๐ฃ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐จ ๐๐๐ง๐ค๐ช๐๐ ๐๐ง๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ ๐๐๐ง๐ข๐๐ฃ๐, ๐๐ช๐ฉ๐ง๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ, ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐ข๐๐ก๐ฎ ๐๐๐ก๐ก๐ฃ๐๐จ๐จ.โ
The activity marked a significant step in strengthening community collaboration and ensuring the effective implementation of the project. It commenced with an orientation where the project team introduced themselves and presented the initiativeโs objectives, scope, and expected outcomes.
The project is spearheaded by Project Leader, ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ. ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ฑ ๐ฅ. ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ฐ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ป, ๐๐ฃ๐ง, alongside ๐๐๐๐ผ๐ฐ. ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ. ๐ก๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ ๐. ๐ง๐ฒ๐ท๐ฎ๐ป๐ผ, ๐๐ฃ๐ง, ๐ ๐๐๐, Department Chairperson, and ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ. ๐ก๐ถ๐ฐ๐ผ ๐. ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐, ๐๐ฃ๐ง, Faculty Member and Special Assistant at the Office of the Executive Vice President, together with ๐ ๐. ๐ก๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ, ๐ ๐ฟ. ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐บ ๐ก๐ผ๐ผ๐ฟ and ๐ ๐ฟ. ๐๐บ๐ฒ๐น๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ฏ๐๐ฑ of the College of Education. Their leadership reflects the departmentโs strong commitment to promoting sustainable practices and enhancing community well-being.
During the visit, the team conducted an ocular inspection of the proposed site for organic farming activities. They also assessed the designated venue for future engagements and discussed key provisions of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), ensuring alignment and shared responsibility between the university and the local government unit.
The team was warmly welcomed by Barangay Kagawad, ๐๐ผ๐ป. ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐บ๐ผ๐ป ๐. ๐. ๐ข๐บ๐ฎ๐ฟ and their Brgy. Secretary, ๐๐ผ๐ป. ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฎ ๐ . ๐. ๐ข๐บ๐ฎ๐ฟ, who represent the Barangay Officials of Palao, and whose support plays a crucial role in fostering strong community partnerships. The consultative meeting was also attended by members of the ๐ฅ๐๐ฆ๐๐ ๐๐ผ๐น๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐, who expressed their commitment to actively participating in the projectโs implementation.
This initiative supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG No. 1 - No Poverty, SDG No. 2 - Zero Hunger, SDG No. 3 - Good Health and Well-being, SDG No. 5 - Gender Equality, SDG No. 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG No. 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production. Through organic farming, nutrition education, and family wellness programs, the project aims to empower communities, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable and inclusive development.

Mindanao State University (MSU) Main Campus reinforced its commitment to community engagement and inclusive development through its participation as a key stakeholder in the Marawi City Jail Strategic Planning Session held at Go Hotels, Robinsons Place Iligan Complex, Iligan City, Philippines last April 29, 2026.
The strategic planning session convened partner institutions and agencies to strengthen jail services and design sustainable reintegration programs for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs). This initiative forms part of an ongoing collaboration under the framework for engagement of external partners and marks the second project with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The MSU delegation was composed of academic personnel from various units, including ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ. ๐ ๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ถ๐ผ ๐. ๐๐ฎ๐น๐ผ๐๐ฎ, ๐๐ฟ., Director of the University Extension Service Center; ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ. ๐๐น๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐น๐ผ๐ป๐๐ผ, Director of the International Affairs and Linkages Office; ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ. ๐ ๐๐ฑ๐๐ป๐ฎ ๐๐๐ฎ๐ธ๐ถ๐น, Dean of the College of Information and Computing Sciences; ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ. ๐ก๐ถ๐ฐ๐ผ ๐. ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐, Special Assistant to the Office of the Executive Vice President and faculty member of the Department of Home Economics, College of Education;

A key highlight of the session was the identification of MSUโs role in developing and implementing relevant programs, such as health and wellness, and skills and livelihood activities for PDLs in Marawi City Jail. It is expected that the following members will contribute to the proposal development, focusing on equipping PDLs with holistic life support and practical competencies that will help their successful reintegration into society.
Through this collaboration, MSU continues to uphold its academic and extension mandateโbridging knowledge and practice to address real-world challenges and contribute to the rehabilitation and empowerment of marginalized sectors.
