The Center for Agricultural Crops Research and Engagement (CARE) of Central Mindanao University, through its Community Engagement and Extension Unit (CEEU) headed by Dr. King Jehu II Q. Radaza, recently completed and submitted its Community Needs Assessment Report to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The assessment was commissioned by the ICRC to inform its humanitarian and development initiatives in one of the communities it supports in Mindanao.

The assessment team was composed of CARE Center Director Dr. Joy M. Jamago, Dr. King Jehu II Q. Radaza, and Assistant Professor Dr. Jean L. Valleser of the Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding, who served as a collaborating researcher.

On 11 July 2026, the Center for Agricultural Crops Research and Engagement (CARE), led by Center Director Dr. Joy M. Jamago, successfully conducted its LAMBIGIT Webinar Series #2 on Research Ethics and Responsible Community Engagement via Zoom in coordination with the PBRG 203 graduate class on Ethics: Scientific Professionalism and Integrity.

The tri-country webinar featured Dr. Junrey C. Amas (Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Plant Genomics, University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia) and Ms. Catherine Hazel M. Aguilar (Project Specialist, Global Crop Diversity Trust, Germany). Participants included CMU undergraduate and graduate students and some faculty from MSU Naawan. CARE, through its Community Engagement and Extension Unit led by Dr. King Jehu II Q. Radaza, sincerely thanks the Office of Research for its invaluable support.

Led by Director Dr. Joy Jamago, the Center (with Plant Breeding majors Gia Joy Lusterio, Anna Luisa Tayong, Via Marie Alpas, Jin Zeanon Butohan, Francis Rey Jumalon, and Edwin Catalla) assisted visitors from MSU General Santos led by Dr. Florence Zapico with Balik Scientist Dr. Benildo De los Reyes during their fieldwork in Bukidnon on July 1-2, 2026. The visiting team conducted observation, documentation, and mapping of in situ populations of Oryza rufipogon at Lake Apo in Guinuyoran, Valencia City, and Lake Napalit in Pigtauranan, Pangantucan.

"As the CARE Director, I was invited to serve as one of the evaluators for the scientific posters for the ugrad and grad categories in both natural sciences and social sciences disciplines for the 1st University-wide Student Research Congress on June 24-25, 2026. A lot of learning and inspiration from the student researchers of the university. Kudos to the organizers, the participants, and the university as a whole. Training day on the last day of June with these young people from the Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding, College of Agriculture (Gia, Jin, Phevi Mae Milan, Jetrille, and Yuvvy on grain analysis (insert Drs. LAMBIGIT #4. This initiative of LGU Kalilangan deserves a shout-out, and special mention to Mr. Ryan Anthony Cawaing and Mayor Atty. Raymon Charl Gamboa. Dr. Joy Jamago (Center Director) and Dr. King Jehu II Q. Radaza (Head, Community Engagement & Extension Unit) were invited to serve as evaluators in the Search for Best Innovation Year 4 by Senior High School Students of Kalilangan, Bukidnon. The Center affirms this initiative of LGU Kalilangan in nurturing and providing a platform for their young researchers and innovators.
