We extend our concern to those who were directly affected, including the families of those who lost their lives and those who continue to recover. We hope they are met with safety, care, and compassion in the days ahead.
In responding to school violence, our focus must extend beyond the immediate incident - and beyond blame.
School violence is complex. There is rarely one cause, one explanation, or one solution. Prevention is a shared responsibilityโacross families, schools, communities, mental health professionals, child protection systems, institutions, and policymakers.
Prevention means strengthening protection, recognizing concerns early, supporting young people, building safer environments, and responding responsibly when violence occurs.
Our responsibility also extends to how we respond and what we share. In moments of tragedy, pause before posting or forwarding. Avoid sharing graphic photos or videos, unverified information, rumors, or speculation. Protect the privacy and dignity of students, families, and communities affected.
What we share can either contribute to further distress or help create a safer, more respectful space for recovery.
